My new dream job starts next week and it's casual dress. They are all very trendy, jeans wearing types. I had trouble on dress down Friday's as my clothes are either scruffy jeans and t-shirt, or uniform of tunic dress, leggings and boots. What and where shall i get some clothes from??

I was thinking some nice jeans, some cargo pants and some long tops. I HATE clothes shopping so I need some help, please!!!!

Congrats on your new job.
It's a bit difficult to help without an idea of your budget, but in general for boring smart casual I would head to Gap. If you hate shopping you can probably pick up enough things there all in one go.

I too hate clothes shopping, but I recently had a good session with a personal shopper in Debenhams - you go in, tell them roughly what you're after and then sit back with a cup of tea while they go and find stuff for you. Useful for times like this when a significant wardrobe overhall is required.

Uniqlo's great for casual work stuff. You could try your tunic dresses over skinny jeans, to dress them down a bit?

If your budget is a bit more free flowing, try Cos, they have great work stuff on the trendy side.

Check it all out online before you go shopping so you know what to bother trying on - much easier.

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 01:15

Thank you all. I've never thought I could have a personal shopper but if debenhams offer such a wonderful thing I'll have a go!
I don't have a huge budget but I don't mind spending say £200 on stuff that I'll wear alot. I tend to go for quality these days rather than masses of cheap stuff
Right I have about an hour Thurs to get all I need

Can I wear a black denim jacket with blue jeans?

Can I wear a black denim jacket with blue jeans? Yes but a leather moto jacket would be more on trend; or a casual blazer.

Tiddlyompompom · 06/06/2012 12:32

I wouldn't double denim myself, puppet is right a blazer would be better.

Just had a quick look on Uniqlo, there are loads of work appropriate dresses & tunics ignore the top two rows tho.

My work uniform in a v casual office was lots of dresses and cardigans, with either tights/leggings/skinny jeans depending on the weather and hemline. A big chunky necklace dresses it up if you're not sure you're smart enough.

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 13:51

Ooh there are some nice things there. Now where for nice jeans?
I like the very light blue kind (are they on trend?)

My jeans are all Uniqlo and Gap - fit is better at Gap!
No idea if pale denim is currently on trend, but I don't have any as it makes my behind look massive! Dark indigo denim all the way here... Grin It's also easier to smarten up for work, light blue/stonewashed denim is less versatile.
Plenty of shops sell baby-blue solid dyed jeans, rather than pale denim, you might find they work better? Just had a quick look, and even M&S had three versions in pale blue.

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 14:50

I seem to have ordered a load of stuff from Next, at least it's free returns if I don't like it. I've got one of the uniqlo tops which was only £14 so very please with that.

I'm trying to put outfits together rather than just loads of stuff, hard habit to break

Zara have some nice sleeveless mullett shirts with embellishment on the collar. Look nice with a long cardigan on cooler days.

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 14:52

what do you think of this jacket? www.next.co.uk/x49124s5#829003x49

That's ideal, yes, great jacket. It'll be good for summer and winter too. :)

Ryoko · 06/06/2012 15:47

My work was casual dress I just turned up in jeans, t-shirt and trainers (like everyone else) I never bothered buying new stuff especially and no one ever complained.

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 18:48

Thing is I don't have any jeans that aren't scruffy so have to get some new ones. Also I hate all my t shirts, I've got masses of the things I should just chuck.

What sector is it ie retail design advertising etc?
I would go for smart black jeans with blousy tops, tunics and shirts
Or if you'reore a dress person, wrap dress with leggings and boots
My casual uniform is Leigh jeans from Topshop in black, white or black top, statement scarf, heels (I always wear them tho!) and a light casual blazer on top

DollyTwat · 06/06/2012 22:22

It's a software house and when I went for the interview they were all in very casual jeans and tshirts. I never wear heels, which is why I don't wear skirts cos I'd have to wear them. I'm a leggings and boots girl, but if we do get any sunshine I have to wear something casual

Dolly Love the Next jacket.

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist · 07/06/2012 23:01

Cargo pants?

DollyTwat · 07/06/2012 23:46

Yes well now you see my problem!! I mean 3 quarter length trousers with pockets etc. capri pants? Would I post here if I knew!!

What I do know is that skinny jeans don't suit me
Taking those back!
