Want to try Colour B4 but scared!

I have had bleached highlights in my mid brown hair for years. Just after Xmas we were very poor and I realised I could no longer afford my four weekly salon visit to get my roots done. I went to the hairdressers to go back to brown. They pre-pigmented my hair with bright orange pigment before putting on a dark dye. The colour is a lovely chestnutty colour which I have gone over many times at home since as it tends to fade fast due to the underlying highlights. Anyway I am now craving to be lighter again. I look wistfully at people with blonde hair and want my lighter locks back. I tend to look a bit pasty especially in the mornings with my dark hair. On the plus side it's in good condition and I don't want to wreck it with more bleach.

I've read some reviews on Colour B4 and it sounds good but I'm terrified of ruining my hair. I was thinking of using this and then getting a natural blonde colour to put on afterwards. Would this work? I can't wait a week after using it before dying again as recommended because I have to work so need to look reasonable. Has anyone used this and should I do it? I can in no way afford £80+ at the hairdressers but at the same time I'm terrified of a bad result (I have had many in the past but at my age should know better!) Thanks.

I used it but mine wasn't as complicated as yours

Did you get a good result? What colour did you put on afterwards?

I left it a bit. I go to students at local aveda place £25

I wouldn't risk it. It will, at best, reoxidise if you use a semi perm or perm dye on it.
Otherwise it will strip the dark out and leave the bright orange and be patchy with roots etc. Just popping a blonde on it will not lift the colour enough.

I have risked it.

I looked like I was channeling Russ Abbot's see-you-Jimmy character.

A better option might be just having some highlights done around your face. If you do it yourself they will most likely need toning with a cool blonde to kill any brassiness.

Ha ha, much as I love Russ Abbot that's not really the look I am aiming for! Hmm thought it might come out patchy and orange. I will maybe save up for some professional highlights instead. It does get some good reviews though.

Is there anywhere round your way looking for hairdressing models?

Toni and Guy will cut and dye for free (if you're happy to sit there for 4-odd hours.)

I'd be happy to sit there for 24 hours if they did a good job and it was free! I have had so many hair disasters in the past, even at salons that I am very nervous to say the least.
