Good and bad points to having a perm??

I have wanted Curley hair for ages, and I am thinking about getting a perm. I don't want really tight curls like a old woman!

Is it possible to have trendy curly hair with a perm?

My sister is a hair dresser and never seems enthusiastic about me getting a perm and says it will ruin my hair. But I think it's because she doesn't like doing perms!

Would like to hear bad and food points of getting perm and if you can unperm your hair after wards? As I'm sure you can!!

Well, I suppose you don't need to blow dry or straighten hair anymore, so perhaps less damage inflicted in the long run. I may be wrong.

I had a consulatation about a large curl/loose perm, it was called Synchron (? or similar) but wasn't quite brave enough to go through with it. Still considering.

I have considered it but have recently discovered that letting my hair dry naturally after spraying with Kerastase volumising spray is the way forward. I have very fine hair It leaves me with soft waves as opposed to ringlets. If I pull the hair back to the nape of my neck as though making a low ponytail and twist it altogether along the length (iyswim) whilst it is still wet I get an even better result.

You're having a laugh right Grin.
As someone with shaggy (frizzy) hair can't believe somone else would pay to have hair like that!!!Grin

perms very dated non? Does your hair have any kind of natural wave that you could accentuate with products etc?

The only way to curly my hair is to use a wand and lots of hair spray!! And I can't do that everyday...

I really wouldn't bother tbh, more often than not it doesn't turn out quite right and hair ends up looking bedraggled, rather than boho. Esp on hair that's very straight.

A friend of mine had a large curl perm from Aveda, it was £££ and ruined her hair. She ended up with very dry/frizzy hair that took a long time to recover.

Good points - it's great for 80s parties.

Bad points - retro-90s is where it's at now.
