well you won't know if head and shoulders will work unless you try it Confused

t gel v good but mega spenny

yellowraincoat · 01/06/2012 23:35

t gel is crap, just dries your scalp out more so you have to keep using it.

dead sea shampoo and philip kingsley for itchy flaky scalps only ones that ever worked for me, dead sea about £7, philip kingsley about £16.

expensive but worth it if it solves the problem i reckon

workshy · 01/06/2012 23:37

t gel is the only thing that worked for me

none of the cosmetic shampoos help

choirmum · 01/06/2012 23:39

I use T Gel sensitive for my daughter. Pricey but you don't need to use much and it worked from the first wash and her hair is in beautiful condition. I think the normal T Gel (brown colour) is much harsher.

IMcHunt · 01/06/2012 23:41

I put lavender, camomile, patchouli and tea tree oils (just a couple of drops of each) in a little olive oil, massage it into my scalp, leave it for a couple of hours and then scrub my hair and scalp with bicarb paste and rinse it with cider vinegar in water. Works a treat, and makes your scalp feel loooovely. It's a pain in the arse to do very frequently though, and as soon as I use shampoo again, I get the horrible scalp. Pretty sure mine's caused by a sensitivity to SLS though, since I used to get horrible skin on my hands till I started making my own liquid soap which doesn't have it in...

MamaMaiasaura · 01/06/2012 23:50

I use panthene usually. I'll definitely be trying these suggestions.

I did try h&s years and years ago but lots if bad press and it made scalp sore. Dh uses it and I won't because of bad press

The Body Shop do a ginger shampoo that combats dandruff! I used to have to use Head & Shoulders and hated it (very prone to dandruff with very dark hair so it shows up horribly) and converted to the Body Shop stuff about 3 years ago - haven't looked back. A large bottle (£6) lasts me about 6 months, although I have a bob rather than long hair, but it's very thick and actually works a treat towards taming it without making it greasy.

KateShmate · 02/06/2012 00:13

Only thing that has worked for me is the 98p Vosene medicated shampoo! Picked some up in our £shop to try it, and have nearly finished bottle now.
Have weirdly found that I have to wash my hair much more often now, but wouldn't ever not use it now.
Mine used to get so itchy that I would get horrible scabs etc etc (sorry)

I do get awful eczema though, and whenever I get a flare up, I always get a flakier scalp - so I half blame it on that!

ifitsnotanarse · 02/06/2012 00:18

I had a really bad case of dandruff a few months ago - it was so itchy that I made my scalp bleed scratching. I got Nizoral in the chemist and after the second application the itching and flaking stopped. I still have to use it one every 1 or 2 weeks. Apparently the active ingredient is ketoconazole, which is what I actually asked the chemist for (Nizoral is a brand name).

MissMogwi · 02/06/2012 06:54

L'oreal blue bottle with orange lid. Says anti dandruff/Selenium on the front. Cleared up my itchy flaky scalp in a couple of washes.

After suffering for years, it has made a world of difference. I use Head & Shoulders itchy scalp conditioner too, and my scalp is now clear.

SoldeInvierno · 02/06/2012 11:42

Kerastase anti-dandruff, the one with the grey top, is the only one that works for me. Well, T-Gel works as well, but I hate the smell.

Nickoka · 02/06/2012 16:26

Nizoral is expensive but it's the one that really works.

ness117 · 02/06/2012 18:29

My DP has really bad dandruff, i've bought him pretty much everything to try and the only thing that works consistently for him is Simple's range of anti-dandruff shampoo.

Dawndonna · 02/06/2012 18:32

Somebody on here recommended Nizoral a while back. Don't know who it was, but I love them! Seriously, it's good stuff.

choirmum · 02/06/2012 20:48

SoldeInvierno, T Gel sensitive doesn't have a smell but the brown one certainly does! Fortunately that one isn't recommended for under-12's and it's my daughter who uses it (10).

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 02/06/2012 20:53

Another vote for t gel.I like the smell of the brown one.Very clean smell imo.

alisound · 02/06/2012 20:55

Another vote for Nizoral

MamaMaiasaura · 03/06/2012 09:27

Dh did shopping yesterday and came home with oilatum shampoo :-S if it doesn't work I'll try nizoral or t gel next.

Ditch the Pantene it is AWFUL stuff! You need L'Oreal Elvive in the dark blue bottle with the orange lid - magic in a bottle!

valiumredhead · 03/06/2012 10:40

I think it has the main active ingredient that Nizoral has but nicer for your hair and smells better IIRC.

MamaMaiasaura · 03/06/2012 10:50

Once I run out of Pantene I will get the loreal :)

OP posts:
yellowraincoat · 03/06/2012 10:55

I didn't find the Loreal one worked for me. I think I'm allergic to the SLS stuff (whatever it may be.)

Using vinegar before washing then rinsing out does work for me, but really doesn't do my hair (dyed) much good.

seabuckthorn · 03/06/2012 11:16

Can you use these in pregnancy? Dry everywhere Sad
I might try the body shop one?

Loreal dark blue bottle with orange writing.

I suffered for years and tried dozens of different shampoos. My scalp was scabby and flaky. I use this evey third wash and have no dandruff at all
