hard wearing shoes for kids

Is there a brand out there that makes really hard wearing shoes for kids? Like steel capped toes or something? it's the scooting

DD has destroyed her Clarks, her Livvie & Lucca, her Crocs, her Startrite... Everything seems to have about a 3 month life span.

& while I am on the subject, would you expect the soles to last more than 6 months? Her Clarks wellies & her Walkmates boots have both got holes in the soles & let in the water Hmm

I'm not sure if anything can stand up to scooting (apart from a steel toe cap).

DD is fine when she is on her scooter (micro scooter with a break on the back) but it is the school ones that she uses that do it, I think its because there is no break on the back.

DD is doing the last few weeks with a hole covered in boot polish until she learns to stop doing it, I can't keep up.

Ricosta are really tough, they are more expensive than Clarks but their quality is far superior - some of their school shoes have rubber reinfocing at the toes - build to withstand a bit of lunchtime football, maybe not braking a scooter though.

I find Geox the best for my DS - they still look like new after a few months wear. He has the black Geox trainers for school - I am sure there will be a girls version.

as someone who works in shoes.. generally speaking NOTHING can stand up to scooting. Defo not got girls. You can get boys stuff that have more re-inforced toes but I've never seen anything as good for girls. Soles more than 6 months, maybe, but then if shes breaking etc. that all wears away at the soles, and how often is she wearing them?

But good brands. I like Petasil. Not seen or heard of a manufacting fault on those lately, or had/heard of any complaints (other than so disappointed they don't fit)

My 4yo DS has had a pair of Garvalin shoes for 9 months now (his feet don't grow very quickly!) and they have worn brilliantly. Still very smart, not scuffed, good soles still. They are his only pair of shoes - just Welles and crocs so they have been worn pretty much every day in that 9 months and suffered being the brake for his scooter, football, puddle jumping and all other 4yo activities. Just growing out of them now so I'm getting another pair of Garvalin for him. Brilliant shoes and totally worth the c. £35 they cost.

fragola · 01/06/2012 14:28

Ricosta are brilliant. My ds wears the goretex ones with reinforced rubber toes and they don't seem to wear at all. And they're waterproof. They are expensive, but worth every penny.

Teach her to scoot properly and use her brake!!!

PosieParker · 01/06/2012 14:31

Funny but most brands mentioned here are made in the same factories!!!

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 01/06/2012 19:36

The thing is I think that DS's clarkes were £35 banyan, I got caught by the pair with the silly toy in the heel Sad, rookie mistake, 2nd year in next term so I won't get caught with that again.

MrsBovary · 01/06/2012 22:44

Garvalin, agree with. Also Pepe are quite robust, though a little more expensive.

We always buy aigle wellies and they are super strong.

In terms of an everyday shoe i always seem to go for Bisgaard they are excellent quality and extremely tough and strong - i have only ever had to replace them as my daughter feet had grown.

My DS is a very heavy wearer - and used to regularly put holes in his shoes. I now buy him either Ricosta or Buckle My Shoe. Both seem to last longer than other brands (although they are not indestructable). As far as wellies - if your child can destroy a pair of BOGS wellingtons, then you have a problem. My lad has been trying to destroy his pair for months now - and not a scratch. Yes they are more expensive (so buy a size up) but they last for ages.
I buy online - and got them at two websites www.shoesforkids.co.uk and www.welliesforkids.com

My DD wears Hush Puppies and DMs she is toddler size 11 and they both last well

DonaAna · 11/08/2012 10:36

Swedish brand Kavat. Some of the boots are bitume-covered and indestructible. Worn by 4 consecutive children. Toddler sizes up till about 6 years.
