fake tan carnage

I'm an idiot. I used the Ambre Solaire spray, but got the "original intense" one. I have had pasty pale legs. Now I look like I have had diarrhoea down them. And lovely lines round my ankes. I have scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed to get it off, but not much improvement. Now what?

Wear trousers. Lucky the weather's turned.

Or you could add even more to even it up and hope noone mistakes you for a mahogany sideboard.

I do sympathise, I am pasty too but all fake tan looks orange on me so I don't bother. And I hate the smell.

TreesDogsBooks · 31/05/2012 15:59

Toothpaste can help to get it off if it's not too late.

bonzo77 · 31/05/2012 16:09

I am wearing trousers, but have 2 weddings this weekend and either need to be bare legged or wear nude tights. Either way the shit stains fake tan will show. I have already "topped up" and it looks worse not better. Am about to try the toothpaste and will let you know.

Get some sally hansen airbrush legs from Savers, boots etc and try that. It should even it all out, bit like foundation for legs.

mrsbob · 31/05/2012 16:32

Lemon juice works well too. As someone who has trained to do spray tans, I always advise clients to keep away from creamy shower gels as these strip the tan quicker so maybe this could help to fade it.

mathanxiety · 31/05/2012 16:45

Rub baby oil or hand cream on your legs and let it sink in for a few hours, then take a long, hot bath and use an exfoliating glove to rub but not enough to make your skin raw. Watch out for slippy bath from all the oil or lotion though.

I have heard nail polish remover works too and if you want to experiment on some area that wouldn't normally be visible maybe you could try that. Not sure how it would work over such a large area though.

bonzo77 · 31/05/2012 16:45

right, tooth paste applied with exfoliating gloves has achieved some improvement (though left my hands strangely tingly). Will get a lemon mrsbob when I go out, and will repeat performance later.

fluffycloud will the Sally Hansen stuff rub off onto clothing? My dress is a sort of pale nude colour, dry clean only and I am hoping to wear it for 2 weddings (Sunday and Monday).

math I already tried nail varnish remover and surgical spirit, eye makeup remover too. Will try the oil / bath / scrub too.

Swimming in a chlorinated pool for 1/2 hr or so helps fake tan on its way, especially if you follow up with mathanxiety's baby oil/exfoliation routine.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/05/2012 16:48

No it doesnt rub off and is very easy to apply too.

I always get a spray tan before any big events. It costs more obviously but how much would you pay right now not to have this stress?.

bonzo77 · 31/05/2012 16:54

yes! fluffy def doing spray tan next time, or not bothering at all!

I always used to do sunbeds, but obviously that's stupid, and not cheap anyway.

I had a spray disaster last week and have been scrubbing ever since Will never deviate from ST Tropez again ambre solaire is rubbish! It is just going now I sympathise

anniewoo · 31/05/2012 19:00

That ambre solaire light glow no streaks bronzer is a bitch ....no streaks my a*

LaLashes · 31/05/2012 20:14

Definately try lemon juice. Ive used it after every tan disaster and its worked a treat! Rub in well (esp elbows ankles and knees) and leave overnight if possible - or if not leave a few hours. Shower and exfoliate then moisturise and you should look fine!
