Moved to California (whoop) so now living in flip flops or barefoot...my feet are a state, really dry and cracked and hard. What do I dowith the monstrosities, short of wearing socks with sandles?

go to a salon - lots in California and they're much cheaper/quicker than UK.

oh - and with 6month old in tow? Might have to start treating myself once a month at this rate though

ah yes, sorry, i didn't have a 6month old when i was there.

how about finding a mobile one who visits you at home. i have just tried that and it was fab! (not in California or I'd offer you her number!)

Amazing - in the meantime, any tips at home foot care? What those pumice things about?

Look after your feet and they will look after you.
File any really horrible dry skin with footfile when dry. Be careful not to go too far.
Remove nail polish. Soak feet (bath or footbath) , scrub with pumice and soap, especially around the heels and big toe edges. Dry and use very rich cream - I use honey beeswax - and really massage in well, including nail beds. Clip nails straight across while soft, file corners gently to avoid ingrowers and push cuticles back gently. Use a buffer to remove cuticle skin from nail corners. Clean under nails if grimy like mine get
Use a good basecoat, then 2 coats of polish and a good topcoat.
I use OPI or Orly basecoat, OPI or China Glaze or Orly Polish and Sally Hansen Megashine topcoat.
I often do the pedicure up to the last coat of polish and apply the topcoat in the morning. The polish has cured by then and any overnight smudges are evened out by the topcoat.
DO NOT use a quick dry topcoat like Seche Vite on toenails as it will make the polish more prone to chipping and is not so hardwearing. It's better used for a quick hand nail fix when you need them to dry instantly.
My pedicure method lasts me about a month, when my nails need clipping again. It never, ever chips and I am an outside barefoot kinda gal.

wow amazing thanks! Once a month sounds doable even for a lazy so and so like me!
