Epilators - do they work?

Had one many many years ago, and it hurt a lot, and just snapped the hairs rather than pulling them out.

I've shaved my legs/bikini ever since, but this year I've started to use waxing strips.

Wondering whether to take the plunge with an epilator again. Experiences please????

Fab. I have one you can use everywhere, including face. Regrowth is so much finer and I am a hairy lady with dark hair, I really don't have to use it much at all anymore. The new Braun one with a razor is meant to be good.

That's really interesting, thanks. I am also a hairy, dark haired lady (blame my Spanish mother!).

I have the Braun one and it is really good. I haven't quite got used to it yet - it hurts like hell, but so did waxing and tweezing when I started doing them and I don't feel it any more so I am ever hopeful that it wont always be this painful Grin

I use mine every 2 weeks, just on my legs though. If I can't do it for a week then I don't epilate long leg hair as its agony, I shave it & then epilate a couple of days later.
Its still not comfortable but they come with a massage head or something similar that you pop over the metal epilating part & it makes it a bit better :)

I have a Braun one too, it works pretty well and is much much better than shaving if you're quite hairy and dark-haired.

I don't find it hurts at all on my lower legs, I have to admit armpits were quite sore the first time, but once you get into the routine of doing it regularly it isn't so bad. Tbh if you're used to waxing, I think you'll be fine.

The biggest problem is with ingrown hairs, and the fact that it doesn't always pick up the shortest hairs meaning you're not as completely smooth as you would be with waxing or a wet shave. The newer Braun ones supposedly get even the tiniest hairs though, or there's the one with the razor attachment.

Supposedly

But yes that and the slight discomfort (agony on armpits if not used for a whole and shave instead) are the only downsides

Thanks all. I've just taken the plunge and bought a Braun silk-epil 7. Had a go, and it's not as painful as I thought!

May this be the first summer in 25 years that I can go swimming on a whim, rather than having to plan in advance and shave my bikini line? Freedom!!!

Bikini line with an epilator?! faints

I love mine but it's legs only... I'd need a general anaesthetic for anywhere else...

I've just treated myself to a new epilator (Braun Silk epil 7.. the wet and dry one) and I'm gobsmacked at how much better it is than my old one (a 5 year old Braun) Things have obviously moved on loads and I have to say that being able to use it in the shower is great - both less painful and time-saving.
