Return of the 90s???

DonInKillerHeels · 29/05/2012 20:43

I saw a student today dressed exactly like I used to dress as a student in the early 90s, and I have to say she looked pretty cool.

Large-ish t-shirt, tick.
Mid-thigh mini-skirt (not too short), tick.
Low-mid-calf black lace-up boots, slightly goth-y, tick.

Have we come full circle? Or was this a one-off?

Yup I love it, o was too young but at the age where I wished I could dress like the 'teenagers'!!! So I'm loving it right now

Crop tops - was a puppy fat child when they came out so now K loce them (well i did before pregnancy...) But it's been slowly seeping in in the last 2 years.....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/05/2012 20:58

DD1 dresses pretty much exactly like that, as did I at 18. Sadly, my norks are too big for over-sized t-shirts now.

If poppers return I don't think I will be able to resist merely because I was one of the very few at primary school who didn't have them because my Mum refused. I cried.

TheOneWithTheHair · 29/05/2012 21:04

But no doc boots with Grolsh bottle tops please. They were awful! Or was that the 80's.

CalamityJones · 29/05/2012 21:05

God, I loved it. Skimpy floral dresses, leather jacket, clumpy boots - still a look I reference (albeit from toast these days!)

DialsMavis · 29/05/2012 21:28

I went in to urban Outfitters the other day, it was full of my old clothes!

Fourlegged · 29/05/2012 21:31

I never realised tea dresses boots and leather jackets was a 90s thing!!!! There I'm thinking it's new!

Childoftheseventies · 30/05/2012 00:31

Really short home-cut denim shorts over thick black tights with big boots and a band tshirt and a waistcoat. The bees knees (in my mind anyway). Second hand (vintage not yet invented) old mans overcoat on top. Too much hair mousse and, briefly, a bad perm. Paisley. Purple. And uninhibited dancing to The Cult, the Wonderstuff and the Chilli Peppers. I am now gagging for a peach schnapps and lemonade. And chips on the way home.

OK, from that, guess my University town and the year I started there.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 30/05/2012 09:58

Good, have located my purple velvet DMs circa 1996 just in time. Grin

ChablisLover · 30/05/2012 10:11

Oh me too.

I have green velvet dm boots still at mums house.
Waiting for a return!

Loved this look in the 90's and so did dh. He still thinks about us dating in the 90's and being at uni

Ah those were the days

notjustamummythankyou · 30/05/2012 10:17

childoftheseventies - hmm I reckon 88 / 89? Was going to say Manchester, but it doesn't sound 'hacienda' enough.

I loved my docs. But my mum didn't. I also had a range of second hand waistcoats and jackets - the more beaten up, the better.

Pah to expensive 'vintage' and sobs at the thought of having thrown it all out

Gertiegoolash · 30/05/2012 14:49

My style has never left the 90's, neither has my taste in music come to that! I refuse to grow old damn it! Grin

Abzs · 30/05/2012 15:21

My 6th form wardrobe consisted of big jumper, tiny little slip dress, opaque black tights and cherry red DMs (with red/green port/starboard laces).

Jumper exchanged for Levellers tshirt in summer. Dress exchanged for floor length skirt in winter (they weren't called maxi then). The DMs were replaced with a bright blue pair, but I never loved them like the cherry red ones.

Unfortunately I am no longer 17 and cannot wear tiny little slip dresses any more.

QueenCadbury · 30/05/2012 20:03

Ah, this thread's made me feel all nostalgic. Used to love my men's baggy jumpers/cardigans, long Laura Ashley flowery skirts and docs. Had such a better figure then and hid it under baggy clothes!

Hopefully · 30/05/2012 20:05

I saw a girl in a Fat Willy's surf shack t-shirt today. It was like being 14 again Grin

WellBlowMe · 30/05/2012 20:18

ChildOfTheSeventies I'm guessing you started uni in '92/'93 but what town ... for some reason I'm thinking Belfast? or Manchester?

DrCoconut · 31/05/2012 00:09

I remember floral dresses with DM boots. And leggings and big jumpers. Or the denim shorts over tights look, especially stripey tights! Those were the days when I was slim enough to look good in that sort of thing.

Childoftheseventies · 31/05/2012 00:12

Good guesses... It was 1990. Location? Interesting that you are tending towards the north of the UK. Clearly not what was worn in Oxbridge! Some clues... Level 8 ... The101 chip shop ... flip ... Late night showing at the Grosvenor...the music from the cricket played as the end of the night song at my second fave club...

Never did buy Docs. Was too skinny. With my leggings and black tshirts I looked like golf club.

LittlebearH · 31/05/2012 03:42

I used to wear the coloured jeans and fruit of the loom jumpers. Not to mention the Levis 501 T-shirts and the Nike Air Max ltd edition trainers

DonInKillerHeels · 31/05/2012 22:46

DMs! Love!

It's about time DM's came back in.

Everyone's feet are tired of high heels.
