Teenager with dry lumpy, bumpy skin on face, not spots, help ?

My 17 year old daughter is suffering with what feels like dry, rough, bumpy skin on her face. She is currently using the Simple range for combination skin but I don't think its doing her any favours.

I felt her face tonight and it feels like crocodile skin ! Ive never suffered with dry skin myself so am at a loss as to how to advise her, should she still be cleansing and toning or will this just make it dryer ?

Help needed !!

P.s I don't mind forking out for her a more expensive range of face care if this helps as she is a poor student

I'd get into an exfoliant. If she's only moisturizing and toning she is perhaps not sluicing away the dead skin.

I find that the soap and glory exfoliant with crushed up peach pips works wonder for me.

I have Kp on my arms and legs. I am currently using sulphur soap which is improving it slowly. It is called Sal3 and as far as I know you can only get it from America in packs of 10 for about £35.

I am also using salicyclic acid ointment which I asked the GP for - it's quite greasy so not sure how it would work on facial skin.

I feel for your poor girl if she has it on her face- I would speak to GP. IF they think it is Kp and you want to try the soap I will post you a bar.

Take her to your GP who can identify the problem - it could be anything from a specific skin condition to just a bit of dry skin. No-one here can tell you what it is and if you take her to the beauty counters some non-medical sales person will just flog their stuff to you with tales of ... really mild... designed for sensitive skin... completely natural ingredients etc!!
She'll feel daft if the dr says it's just a bit of dry skin, but better that than spending a fortune on inappropriate skin products which may even make it worse!

Good luck and hope she finds the answer! In the meantime, maybe cut out the toner as it's obviously going to be drying??

Sal3.com- just had to look it up no good at posting links. But good advice from Franco to see GP. And don t go buying ten bars in case it doesn't suit - I will post a bar as I have said. It smells like matches (nice!) but I have seen some improvement slowly.

I don't rate Simple at all - it stings my face.

whackamole · 29/05/2012 12:08

Try some brown sugar and olive oil as a scrub. Sounds like my skin if I don't regularly exfoliate - just generally a bt 'coarse' if that makes sense.

ilovetoski · 29/05/2012 15:17

Thanks for all the good advice and especially to Tiddlymum for the offer of the soap, thats very kind of you, im going to research KP a bit more and pack her off to the Drs, interesting that even Simple is too strong for some of you, but yes I do agree I would probably just get waylaid buying more products that didnt suit if I asked a Beautician on a Beauty counter !

Sounds like my skin and I don't exfoliate...

My sister did her pharmacy dissertation on how the simple range is utter bollocks and one of the worst ranges out there full of drying chemicals ...

Flexatol cures keratosis pilaris, my dd1 has used it for a few days on her face and it cleared up a great.

Tiddlymum · 01/06/2012 21:58
