Yet Another Babyliss Big Hair Thread...

(Who thinks we can make this a new meme - YA(BBH)T ?) Wink

I've been hankering after a BBH for ages now, and after all my thorough research I'm wondering... is it the only rotating brush? Or are there other ones? If there are, are they less good? Or what are they like in general?

Basically, why is the BBH so special?

Should I buy one? I have naturally wavy/curly hair which tends to go frizzy on the 2nd to 3rd day, but is behaving better after just having been cut. I got a sort of sweepy fringe cut in this time, and it looked really nice when the hairdresser arranged it, whereas now I've washed it a few times, it just looks untidy. Would the BBH help with this? Obviously I wouldn't just buy it for the fringe!

I got one at Christmas.

I love it - I haven't used my straighteners since and my hair looks amazing - I get people commenting on it all the time now, which I never used to.

My hair is very fine and in a long bob (I'm growing it)

Tranquilidade · 27/05/2012 21:45

I got one and it is good but my hair is not really long enough even for the smaller one so it is good but not fantastic for me. DD says it is the best thing ever for her though

fuckarama · 27/05/2012 21:46

And my fringe looks amazing now instead of just wispy and annoying

AndImFeelingSoBohemianLikeYou · 27/05/2012 21:49

So would you say people with fine hair would benefit most from it? Mine is sort of coarse I think. And shoulder-length. Would that be too short? I'm considering having it cut in a chin-length bob next time, is that definitely too short?

I mainly use mine on just the fringe, my hair is wavy/curly and the fringe goes curly at the slightest hint of damp in the air, the BBH gives a more natural look than straighteners on it. I do use it on my whole hair occasionally, but I am lazy and tend to just dry the fringe and shove the rest into a big knot at the back for a few hours then let it down to dry naturally. When I use it on the whole hair I really enjoy doing it, it feels great and it does make it smoother and swooshy, but I cannot get much root volume with it. I wouldn't be without it though.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2012 21:52

Mine's just below the shoulders I should add, with the shortest layer being chin length.

KateSpade · 27/05/2012 21:56

My Hair is long, and i (seriously) Used to spend an hour blasting it with the hair dryer, i bought this last week styled my whole hair + full head of extensions in about half an hour. Slight wave to it, looked fantastic. Hair was still exactly the same at midnight on my night out. Really pleased.

Two questions though (sorry for high jacking) Sometimes i have a problem with getting the roots of my hair dry, does anyone else have that?

and second, has anyone tried adding large velcro rollers after for a celeb style look?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2012 22:06

I think that might be why I don't get much root lift Kate - not getting the roots dry enough. If I remember, I give my hair a good blast upside down with the dryer first, concentrating on the roots, and that helps, as does a blast upside down again with the dryer on a cold setting at the end, before using the fingers gently to rearrange it smoothly again. I still don't get celeb style root lift though.

I loved mine, but it's now languishing unused in a cupboard in favour of jumbo rollers.
It creates a sort of bounce or swing you get from hair being professionally blow dryed. Though I have long hair and found it took half an hour to style my hair, with the rollers I can produce similar effect with much less time and effort.

MrsBovary · 27/05/2012 22:15

I make sure my hair is almost dry before using too, otherwise danger of frizz on my wavy hair.

KateSpade · 28/05/2012 09:03

What do you do with the jumbo rollers mrsbovary

Thanks whoknows i never thought of that.

whackamole · 28/05/2012 09:51

I have shoulder length curly hair, I rarely straighten anymore, but when I do I use my BBH!

The thing to remember is that (particularly on curly hair, I'd imagine) it's really not a quicker way to do your hair. It needs to be mostly dry - I normally wash in the evening, then put it into a tight ponytail to sleep so it's mostly dry and pulled straight by morning. Then I use my BBH to get straight hair with a bit of bounce!

I tried heated rollers and couldn't get the feckers to stay in. I now use velcro rollers on wet hair, and although it takes aaaaaaages to dry, I don't need to use any heat at all and I get loose curls or bouncy straight hair with no effort! (Depends on the size of the roller).

Best thing was that it cost be less than £5 for the 40-odd that I have.

MrsBovary · 28/05/2012 10:01

There are five of the rollers for whole head, Kate (Tresemme jumbo rollers). They don't curl or wave, obviously, but give similar effect and volume produced by BBH. BBH is great though and would recommend also!

Pootles2010 · 28/05/2012 10:12

Do like mine, only thing I've noticed is it makes my hair a bit strangely knotty. Don't quite know how to describe it, it just feels a bit... strange, which I can only get rid of by brushing it, which gets rid of a bit of bounce :( anyone else find this?

FrankWippery · 28/05/2012 10:16

I bought one a couple or three weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I have hair that's just about shoulder length and it has been transformed.

whackamole · 28/05/2012 10:21

How strange Pootles! I do find if I'm not careful I can end up dreading my hair, but no, normally it is really smooth.

KateSpade · 28/05/2012 11:29

Oh, do you mean heated rollers?

I've been using BBH and putting some not heated rollers on the front and top sections of my hair, giving it some heat with my hair dryer leaving for a while, and taking out.

Just wondered if anyone else does the same and what their results were.

valiumredhead · 28/05/2012 13:34

If you are at all good with a brush and hair drier I think you will be disappointed tbh, especially with coarse, thick hair.

AndImFeelingSoBohemianLikeYou · 28/05/2012 16:03

Thanks for the opinions everyone! If anyone knows of any other turny-roundy-hot-air-blowy brushes, Id still like to hear about them. BBH was ordered today (boo at Tesco but yay for voucher exchange making this free!). Very excited to try it out and really hoping it won't get shoved in a drawer somewhere after using it twice! Grin

I bought mine last week but although I keep reading how brilliant it is I can't seem to get it work on my hair (long). My main issue is how to 'unwind' your hair IYSWIM... Any tips?
