Hair dye virgin - gimme help!

Going a bit grey - just odd strands here and there.

Pre DS I used to get highlights put in (three colours into non dyed hair) but time/money mean that this is not an option anymore.

I fancy brightening up my mousey blonde hair - nothing drastic - just making it a bit more sexy looking but not changing the colour dramatically.

Is there a product that will give me a similar look to highlights that I can put in at home? Or am I on a full due job - and if so, what dyes can you recommend? Not overly expensive would be good - about the £10 mark.

TIA!

sun in - will lighten your hair - if you spray it on in this nice sunny weather it will make you hair slightly blonder.

Sorry! Lost this thread due to random posting elsewhere Blush

Thanks for the sun in tip - sounds like what I'm after.

How is it with chlorine? Anyone know?

Casting satin blonde.

Step away from the sun in.

What's wrong with sun-in?

It will trash your hair and turn it a brassy colour. If you go near chlorine it will tint it green.

Do not use sun in!
I am normally a natural blonde with healthy hair. A few years ago I thought I would try it. It dried my hair out something stupid and went a weird straw colour.

I have just used Garnier nutrisse creme (sp?) today and its fab, easy to use and my hair feels lovely! Can't recommend a colour though...Ive gone red! Grin

Highlights really are your best option, as they are low maintenance, and the regrowth is not obvious. If you take your hair lighter with a block colour, your regrowth will notice within a very short space of time. Take a look at all the threads on here about home dyeing, it really isn't easy. There are many problems: applying the colour evenly, regrowth, getting the right shade, keeping the colour from fading when you find one you like, stopping the ends going too dark/too light, the condition, trying to apply it just on the roots when it regrows, and so on.
Highlights much nicer and more natural, especially as it sounds as if you haven't got much grey to cover.
If its the cost, go to a model night at a good salon, or try a training college.

Mmm - will step away from sun in as I do swim a lot with my DS.

Highlights, it's more a time thing for me. I'm a WAHM so don't get away from DS much, and he's still quite clingy (long story, but emergency hospitalisation last year which scared him) so leaving him with someone is not really an option, and weekends are impossible to get appointments for highlights when DH can deal.

May have to go grey dis gracefully! Grin
