Dry elbows even after moisturising - what to try?

My elbows seem dry and a bit red even after I've been applying all sorts of moisturisers morning and night for weeks. I don't have generally dry skin, it's average, but my elbows suddenly seem ultra dry.

Has anyone got a good idea of what to try next...preferably cheap!!

Perhaps the perfume in what you've used has caused the redness?

Last night I used Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on my feet and went to bed in socks, they are like baby's bums now! Not cheap but you only have to do it a couple of times a month.

Or you could have a look in Boots, they usually have a section for dry skin conditions and most of that stuff is non perfumed. I think a higher urea content is better.

Waitrose bottom butter - £3ish

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - £6ish maybe - a tube does last forever though

Flexitol Heel Balm - £5ish

Neutrogena Glycerin handcream - £3.50ish

I can highly recommend any of the above. I have found the most effective way is to rub Bio Oil into the dry area and then apply a layer of any of the above suggestions on top. It seals the oil in and works an absolute treat every time.

Elbows, knees, feet, heels, hands, you name it.

I solved my own dry elbow problem just this very morning - using my DD's Hydromol (sp?)

It is brilliant.

Or try running a bath with a cupful of oats in the water (puts the oats in an old popsock/foot from a pair of old tights first, otherwise you spend ages fishing it out of the plughole!) - really good at moisturing dry skin and v v v cheap.

Then, while your skin is still damp from the bath, smooth Vitamin E oil (Superdrug sell this pretty cheaply, as do Boots I think) into your skin and seal with a layer of your normal moisturiser.

Also, when you have squeezed lemons put the empty halves on your elbows, it softens the dead skins and helps to remove it.
