Beauty Balm - Anyone Tried One?

RichTeaAreCrap · 23/05/2012 13:38

What is this beauty balm I keep hearing about? It isn't a certain brand - apparently there are lots of them about. It is meant to be brilliant.

Is it the same as serum or something compeltely different?

Has anybody tried one and was it good? I haven't been make up shopping for ages so wanted to know what it is and what it is used for before I go.

I've just ordered one from ebay as the ones on the highstreet don't have as good reviews. It was tempting to just try one from boots but I was concerned about it being too orange and a waste of money so after a bit of reading around I opted for this one

it hasn't arrived yet so I can't comment on how good or bad it is.

I read good things about the Garnier one in the beauty press so went for that. I really like it. It melts away beautifully.
I use it as I don't normally wear foundation, just a bit of concealer and it gives a lovely extra smoothness/eveness. If you want to replace your foundation with a BB I think the Garnier one might be too lightweight.
It's something between a primer and a tinted moisturiser I find.

I've bought one from the same seller as Cutitout, a slightly different type of BB cream though - I love it, I'm very pale and don't like heavy coverage, it looks very natural and my skin feels really soft.

RichTeaAreCrap · 23/05/2012 19:14

so it's like a light foundation? I thought it was a kind of one cream/treatment.

if you google Korean bb creams it will give you some background on how they came about and the 'treatment' properties of them. bit of info here :)

They're like a light foundation/sunscreen/ treatment malarkey all combined. The sunscreen and light coverage are what appealed to me.

Thanks, I will read that link CutitOut.

Sunscreen and light coverage appeal to me too, I might give it a try Smile

I've tried the lightest Garnier one which was too dark for me so I mixed it with a Lush colour supplement. Too much faff so I tried the Too Faced one which was about £20. so I used Advantage card points lol & its lovely & I'm wearing it now but its a bit yellow if you're not careful with the blending.
My overall fave is the No7 BB, I use the one for normal/dry skin in Light & its great, just slap it on in the morning before the school run & it evens out your skin, no messing.
What I would say with BB creams though is don't apply them like a foundation to sit on top of your skin, rub them in a bit & they're much more natural x

CutItOutAndRestart · 24/05/2012 13:42

if you look on YouTube there are loads of tips on how to apply it, as otm said it isn't foundation so you need to stick it on differently. Not that I'm an expert as mine hasn't arrived yet Grin

I have a £5 no.7 voucher and I am so impatient tempted to try their bb cream but I will kick myself if it looks rubbish on me

Salli Hughes (beauty writer) recommends them for people with normal- greasy skin but says they aren't very good on dry skins.
