I have really bad various veins on one leg that starts mid calf and up wards and I really need to keep them covered. Apart from maxi dresses I would like to wear some dresses that are jut below the knee, can I wear leggings with dresses??? Istanbul a onkers suggestion, what o people do when they can't get there legs out on display? If you can where leggings with skirts/dresses cold anyone please suggest brands o hopsin which to get them x

Oh I was hoping you'd have got some replies! Have the same dilemma - not so much the veins part as just can't bear to show anything from the knees up and don't have any summer trousers. Have to look smartish this aft. Help!

MarianForrester · 23/05/2012 10:18

I am very bravely wearing shorter leggings than usual under my pretty summer dress to reveal as little as possible of my blue White, dry skinned, bruise covered, veiny legs Grin

Think it looks ok, actually

MarianForrester · 23/05/2012 10:21

O, and I also have a pair of snaky print trousers from Dorothy Perkins which are great for real proper coverage, but still quite cool

squoosh · 23/05/2012 12:43

You could try Mac's face and body make up to cover up the blotchy bits if you still want to get your legs out? Or there's Dermablend I think it's called.

Saltire · 23/05/2012 12:46

Istanbul? Grin.

I have the same problem, varicous veins on one leg, and thanks to a neighbours dog yesterday, a corker of a bruise on my shin

I'm still covered up though

GobblersKnob · 23/05/2012 13:10

Cropped leggings or leggings look just fine with dresses or a short skirt, denim?

I have to know where you were going with 'Istanbul a onkers' though Grin

wideratthehips · 23/05/2012 13:22

hahhahhaha crazy predictive text! Grin .....is that a bonkers suggestion i think i was typing

just come in from the crazy heat in a jersey sleeveless maxi dress and i am cooking!

if i wear black leggings i cant wear a lighter coloured skirt....? if i wear white leggings that might be really bad looking.....a la stuffed sausage legs so i thought maybe teal coloured?
i really like this this and may play safe!

I have the same problem. I've been slapping on the fake tan - can still see the lumpy veins, but at least they look less blue!

wideratthehips · 23/05/2012 14:20

what fake tan would you recommend please?

Leggings are definitely the way to go - black or grey marl for under lighter coloured clothing.

Mopswerver · 23/05/2012 14:44

Our hairdressers has a beauty salon part that offers a Laser therapy for "...the reduction of thicker blue and purple leg vessels (not varicose viens)". You could alsways go somewhere for a consultation to see if yours would be suitable contenders for zapping? I am currently saving up for it (£80 for both legs!)

MidnightinMoscow · 23/05/2012 15:26

I have dreadful vv's.

Sally Hansen does a fab product, which is a spray. Think it's called miracle legs. Can't link as I am phone.

It's good and you can get it in Boots.

WillSingForCake · 23/05/2012 16:55

I use L'Oréal Sublime Bronze fake tan. It's awesome - I've tried loads, and this is the best by far. Just spray it on lightly, it drys instantly, and develops into a really natural looking tan. They do a face one as well, which is also very good.

ElizaDoMore · 23/05/2012 17:06

I posted about these on another thread but I am wearing Primark fishnets and they are fab!

MuddyDogs · 23/05/2012 17:14

Beautiful, sparkly saris would be my ideal summer clothing to redress the leg situation but DH thinks it would be highly eccentric since we are not of Indian descent. In the summer I live in cropped khakis, cargos and breezy yoga pants that are a bit like shalwar kameez. I have a few long, swishy cotton skirts for dressier days that I would live in but they get in the way a bit walking the dogs etc Grin. Sometimes I wish for the days of white cotton empire waist dresses a la Jane Austen Sad.

scripsi · 23/05/2012 17:38

I second swishy yoga pants (also, dare I say it, harem pants as long as they are not baggy of crotch - they are very cooling and look nice with gladiator sandals and flats: more flattering if the legs go thin at the bottom too).

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 23/05/2012 18:26

Sally Hansen Airbrush legs is bloody amazing.

Huffpot · 24/05/2012 13:12

And I thought it was just me with lumpy bumpy legs!

MuddyDogs and Scripsi do you have any links to the harem and yoga trousers?

scripsi · 24/05/2012 15:44

Like this: www.sweatybetty.com/calypso-harem-yoga-pant-prodys183_black/

(check ebay for above if I were you - have tried them on in Sweaty Betty and they'd be lovely and cool).

or like this: www.toast.co.uk/product/trousers/C4GO7/ELLI+HAREM+TROUSERS.htm
(slightly baggy of crotch for me)

I've got some river island ones (off ebay so can't link) which are also good - cost mere pennies!

They're great for wafting around the house as loungewear, or with a vest top and sandals for outdoors.

scripsi · 24/05/2012 15:48

sorry, again with active links (up all night with vomiting creature ...)

I like

these and

these.

(Lululemon is the Canadian equivalent of SweatyBetty)

ameliameerkat · 24/05/2012 22:05

I just had my veins fixed, but the last couple of summers I was mainly in leggings under dresses (unless I actually had to stand for any length of time in which case I was in compression stockings, socks, shoes and long trousers Sad). Now I just have small scars to cover up, or not, depending on how brave I feel! Grin
