Saw these featured in Style mag a few Sundays ago, and love the look of them, but am a bit Shock at the price.

Does anyone have or seen something similar? Ideally gold or Rose gold colour? Or does anyone have the real thing - is it worth the price?

You can buy enamel charms similar to that fairly cheaply. If you have any gold chain lying around the house that you don't wear that would be the cheapest way of doing it.

Otherwise- the gold price has shot up in recent years so gold jewellery is now v.v.v expensive. I don't think that this item warrants it's price as the weight of the gold in it doesn't tie in with the price.

If you google 'enamel charms' you'll get thousands of options. Don't be afraid to get inventive

For example this by juicy couture is a very similar charm to one on your necklace. But it's only gold plate so is far cheaper.
It would take 2 mins for a jeweller to take the catch off and replace it with a bolt ring to thread it into a chain.

thanks mrsC. I did think about getting the empty necklace then filling it with cheaper charms as and when I find them. tbh I'm more a silver jewellery girl, but love that old Victorian/antique looking gold (not too shiny or yellow). do you think she has just cobbled the necklaces together from watch chains? I also love the necklace Anjum Anand wears in this book photo.goodreads.com/books/1327995590l/5955898.jpg - where should I be looking for this kind of thing do you think? (you are a bit of a jewellery expert rfrom what I remember?)Grin

If you scrub silver or gold with a brillo pad it will give it that antique look. It takes the top layer of polish off (which is easily replaced) so if you have a suitable chain you could start it off in silver or gold!

It's not watch chain she's used, it's a small belcher link so it's quite a common chain link- she's just used gold bolt rings to create the different sections.

Loooove Anjums necklace. It doesn't look as 'put together' if you know what I mean.

Hahaha would love to be an expert on jewellery but I'm making a living from what I can fathom out ;)

If you're looking for plain chain, keep an eye out in pawn shops and the like - always take a note of the weight and carat of the chain and compare it to the current gold price (google) to make sure you're not getting ripped off.

Otherwise you could always take a visit to a bullion merchants if you have one nearby (You'd be surprised!)

For charms... (I wish I had my website up and running because I have been stockpiling victorian charms since I was a kid and need to stop hoarding! Lol) ebay is a good bet. Yet again enquire as to whether the metal is hallmarked and weights etc to make sure you're not overpaying.
It's fair that a particularly beautiful vintage charm would be more expensive than a plain horseshoe or the likes but if it's OTT then back away!!!

Something like

this is quite unusual but would look nice as a pendant.

It's all down to personal taste really but if you find anything on ebay that you're not sure of feel free to message me it and I'll have a nosey to see if there's any alarm bells ringing in my head! Lol

Thanks MrsC! Love that charm - just the kinda thing I like! There are a few pawn shops and second hand jewellers here so will have a look (don't have any chains suitable at home). Loving the Brillo pad tip also Grin
