Any make-up tips to make skin look dewy?

As i have gotton a bit older i have noticed my skin does not look dewy after i put on my makeup, im even using a foundation that is supposed to give you a dewy look too! And what doesn't help this situation is having a dry skin type. So can anyone recommend products that will give me back that youthful dewy look?

Try exfoliating once a week.

Also, spritz your skin with an Evian water spray (Boots, about £6) before applying moisturiser, This helps trap moisture onto the skin which gives a more dewy look.

I've been exfoliating my skin nearly everynight with the neutrogena pink grapefruit facial scrub, says you can do it daily but maybe this is too much. I like the sound of a spritzing spray, this i haven't tried yet. Thanks lashings for reply.

I ditched foundation and switched to tinted moisturiser. It gives a much fresher look to your skin.

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 17:20

i have tried tinted moisturiser but becos my skin can get quite dry it tends to suck it in and i look like i have put nothing on my face. I need something that will even out my uneven skintone. I hope i dont sound fussy but unfortunately im not blessed with perfect skin, i think its becos of my dry skin type. Thanks sue for reply.

Have you tried using a primer before tinted moisturiser? It makes my skin flawless.

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 17:28

i tried the avon magix primer but it just makes my foundation look really matte and powdery. Maybe its the wrong type of primer i tried.

I've noticed the only products which really perk up my skin in this way are Clarins flash balm and the instant smooth stuff. The Instant Smooth has been a lifesaver. I'm 38 if it helps, very pale, normal skin.

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 18:50

I had a sample of the flash balm but i never noticed any difference, but that was a few years ago and i suppose my skin didn't need it then.

Your skin does sound very dry. I moisturise, prime and then tinted moisturiser on top. With me and my skin the more moisturiser I can put on, the better.

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 19:26

The best foundation i used had oil in it but most high street foundations dont have this in. I moisturise every morning and night without fail as well.

The only foundations that make me look dewy (exceptionally dry skin...) are Barbara Daly Moisture Foundation for normal/dry skin and Revlon Colourstay Foundation for normal/dry skin. I also think No 7 BB cream for dry/extra dry skin is pretty 'dewy'. I layer on a LOT of moisturiser under though. Also doing oil cleansing seems to give me a natural glow, particularly if I use the oil as a night moisturiser too. Someone on here suggested bio oil under make-up - might be worth a try.

EllieorOllie · 19/05/2012 19:55

Oh also there are better exfoliators out there. Try No 7 micro dermabrasion one or Soap and Glory. Much more effective and only need to be used once or twice a week.
Can you tell my life is one long battle with my skin? Grin

EllieorOllie · 19/05/2012 19:58

Me again!
Wrt primers, Body Shop do a moisturising primer. It's not as good as some others, but it won't leave you feeling chalky.
I'll shut up now (favourite subject emoticon)

I have really really dry skin (effect of premature menopause I think) though I have always had dry skin! I went to a dermatologist last year as even my beautician remarked on the desert that was my skin! I had been reduced to using extra virgin olive oil at night and that made aslight difference but not enough. She recommended AVEENO DERMEXA which is a moisturiser and I have never looked back. It can be bought in any chemist and I slather it on night and morning and my skin is more nourished and plumper looking. I also use Chanel Vitalumiere foundation which I think some people call greasy but it is perfect for me and makes me dewy looking. Its worth noting though that Chanel is yellow-based not pinky based I think though it suits me. I am 44 years young by the way...hope this helps you .

I use benefit high beam to give me a bit of a shimmer. My skin can be so so dry but the best thing I've found is good old fashioned Nivea!

Missielovelie · 19/05/2012 20:04

Thanks Ellie, think i might have a look in the bodyshop I haven't been in there for a while, lately i just been going to Boots for my skincare stuff.

I'm inclined to recommend one of the new BB creams, do lots of jobs all in one and are made for all skin types. I think No7 do a good one x

I have dry skin - up to recently mine was very parched too. I swear by using a facial oil under my moisturiser day & night. My latest discovery is the AD Skin Synergy www.amarya.co.uk/index.php/nourishing-night-treatment-face-oil-by-ad-skin-synergy.html which is a night treatment but I use it twice a day. It is £38 though so it's worth seeing if you can try a sample first. I got a sample in my latest Amarya box, but Latest in Beauty usually sell a 5 ml for £2 plus P&P (unfortunately it's out of stock at the moment).
There's loads of different facial oils though - The Aromatherapy Associate's one is lovely too.
Over the facial oil I'm using Aveeno cream & the combination is working brilliantly for me at the moment. My skin was so parched & tight up to a couple of months ago. It wasn't the time of year as I'd suffered with it for about 10 months along with eczema break outs. Now it would feel tight if I didn't moisturise, but is looking pretty good now & I'm happy with it.
Makeup wise, I use Liz Earle Sheer skin tint & I have recently started mixing a tiny bit of Benefit High Beam in it to make my skin look dewy. On the Latest in Beauty site you can choose 3 samples for £1.50. One of the samples can be an envelope containing 3 different shades of the Liz Earle Skin Tint. Hope that helps you.

I am 46 dry skin....thanks to MN given my skin a complete overhaul and am very pleased!

Am using Liquid Gold glyclic acid stuff (haven't yet dared progress to the sizzlers, but will...)

Also using Decleor facial oil (neroli) but am going to try either Iris or the Neal's Yard Rose one (both for more mature skin)

Clarins Instant Smooth as primer and Dior Forever foundation.

ArcticRoll · 20/05/2012 10:46

Use Clarins Beauty Flash balm sparingly under make-up

lumbago · 20/05/2012 11:11

Vitalumiere

lumbago · 20/05/2012 11:12

Plus give up booze (and smoking- do people still smoke?) and wash face with flannel. Exfoliate twice Cweek

noddyholder · 20/05/2012 14:05

I use any cleanser from the high st rubbed in well to every crevice and removed with 99p shop pack of 6 rough flannels. No smoking no heavy drinking and the odd steam. Also every so often I put a massive layer of something super nourishing like neroli oil on at night. I mix superdrug vit e illuminating moisturiser with every foundation I use.
