I really feel like I haven't got a clue at the moment. I am 25 and think that this is probably the best it's going to get with my face and I am wasting this time by having no idea what to do about make up.

I am v v pale but my face does tend to have black shadows under my eyes when I am tired and red bit on my chin and around my nose. I was wearing estee lauder foundation but my face was getting dry and when I put it on it looked very flaky. So I bought tinted moisturiser, but I can't say that it seems to make a difference.

Also eye shadow? Mascara? I have no idea..Should I tint my eyebrows as they are so fair??

How do people know this stuff? I feel like I missed a masterclass as school, how do you know what suits you and how to apply it?

Any words of wisdom would be gratefully received.

you could try local college for beauty treatments and you can book makeup lessons in dept stores too or ask a beauty counter lady to show you.
I (personally), as also have dark shadows and red bits, would start with concealing those. Ask for help in store to find the right shade. Practise applying with a brush, although I use my fingers a lot now i'm used to it.
I can live without eyeshadow but mascara is always my must for a more awake look. even if i skip everything else i just make sure my shadows and red bits are covered and have some mascara on.
the only reason i 'know' this stuff is years of practise and wasting vast amounts of money to see what suited me ! Cheapest option would be to get a makeover in a store then you don't have to buy. If you want to experiment at home, perhaps try a cheap range at home ..Superdrug's MUA have most items for £1 each so you arent going to make pricey mistakes.

There's lots of good books around eg Bobbi Brown's or Ruby and Millies', and tutorials on Youtube... am sure other MNetters could come up with some??

Well I didn't start wearing make up until I was 34. Taught myself watching youtube video's.

Lisa Eldridge, Pixiwoo etc

some foundations just do that. are you exfoliating regularly? Moisturise under foundation? i have a Clarins one though, and no matter what i do it makes me flaky (and I have oily skin!). i use a Gosh one now that has almond oil in and looks really natural and non greasy
