Here:

Is it truly frumpy or quite stylish? I'm NOT much of a M and S womens clothes fan - most too garish and mumsy. But have tried this on in shorrt-sleeved version and it fits me well. Not an easy task as I'm a tall hourglass Size 22.

Wondering about getting it for a party on Saturday which starts with champagne tea in afternoon and goes on to early diner. Would have to dress it up and have seen some lovely L K Bennett patent shoes in the turquoise which would help. Also have a silver grey large pearl necklace from Hobbs, a nice thin silvery belt, and grey small Pippa Modalu bag. Was going to wear a pretty floaty Boden dress, but wondering if that will look a bit wrong in the current weather.
So:

  • i) is it nice at all?

ii) even if it is, would it be dressy enough for a party or should I stick with floaty Boden, plus cropped cardi, despite rain and cold?

TIA

'dinner' not 'diner'!

Well, I must admit I snorted out loud when I saw it, but yeah, when you describe how you'd accessorise it I changed my mind. I think it'd be really rather nice!

A good find I think. If it fits well then, yeah, go for it!

this version?

polyhymnia · 17/05/2012 10:31

Yes that version is one i tried - one of few things that look better in RL. Was wondering about the 3/4 sleeve version, which is identical otherwise, so I wouldn't have to bother with cropped cardis, etc.

I think the 1/2 sleeve is a lot better than the 3/4 TBH. I'd be inclined to wear something warm (vest Shock) under rather than a cardie over, I fear a cardie would frumparise it.

Any chance of a link to the shoes? I think Dune have some in a very similar turquoise to the dress too BTW.

These were what I had in mind:

Only I now see they only come in the flt version of this style, not the one with the heel. So, while I normally love pretty flat shoes, they would probably make the dress more 'dressed down'.

Am now veering back to the original Boedn choice, I think. This

in the stone feathers colourway, which has some lovely subtle colours in it. I have shoes from L K Bennett that tone with the light purple colour and, if needed, a cropped cardi that also does. I did buy it envisaging wafting round the gardens at the teatime event but think/hope it should be OK indoors too.

I like it - it caught my eye when I first saw it last week too. Great price also!

polyhymnia · 17/05/2012 17:11

Thanks. Do you mean the shorter sleeve version?

Might just have to buy it as well as my Boden one, at that price. Should be pretty versatile - good for holidays as well as something you can dress up.

Not sure about the shorter sleeves, just because I've never worn a dress with sleeves like that. I'd have to try it on (and will soon).

TheCountessOlenska · 17/05/2012 17:34

I prefer the Boden dress, looks softer and prettier. I don't like the M&S print.

polyhymnia · 17/05/2012 17:50

It's certainly pretty. If weather had been as you hope on a May afternoon, would have had no qualms about it. Though party isn't ouitdoors, it's just that we could have wandered about the lovely gardens if it had been nice.

I'm preferring the boden dress too
