Holiday wardrobe

Anyone up for helping me?

We (three adults, two children) are flying to Seville, spending a day there, then travelling to the Costa de la Luz for a week. I haven't been on a beach holiday for eight years, unless you count shivering on English beaches, so am not quite sure what to take. I haven't quite adjusted to the idea of being somewhere that's hot.

So far, my list comprises:

blazer
2 cardigans (navy and teal)
3 short-sleeved plain t-shirts in various shades of blue from White Stuff, like this
1 patterned top
skirt (reversible, so counts as two)
safe-option navy tankini

paisley floaty top thingy for the beach
straw hat
blue scarf
jeans

The only shoes I have are these pumps from Next.

What else do I need? Am deliberating about whether to buy a bikini (tum not as flat as it was Sad). I need shoes that I can wear out to restaurants, but am not sure whether to go for wedges like these or sensible flattish shoes that I can walk in, like these.

I need another pair of trousers, I think. And a beach dress would be nice.

I'm 5' 10" and weigh 10 stone 5, by the way. Not as young as I was either (40ish).

Thanks to anyone who's read this far....

Sorry, the blazer link doesn't work. It's a brown (described as 'bamboo'] cotton blazer from Esprit.

i'm not style expert, but i think you're taking too much warm stuff - when are you going? we all took two cardigans to italy last may, the DDs didn't wear theirs at all and i only wore mine in the evening occasionally.

we will take one each this year, but two and a blazer? and jeans? too hot i think (hope for your pleasant holiday...).

how about jeans pedal pushers instead (these i will allow!)?

steph124 · 16/05/2012 16:36

How about summer dresses? Ones which you could wear both during the day and at night?

toffeewhirl · 16/05/2012 17:05

You are probably right, janek - I think I'm erring on the side of caution because last time we went to Spain it rained every day and I was cold. However, that was in May, not June, and we were told it was very unusual for it to be so chilly.

I live in jeans at home, so feel a bit weird without them.

steph - yes, I'd like a summer dress. Haven't been able to find one I like enough yet though.

Seville will be hot! my brother in law lived there for a while.
T-shirts, vests, cardis, chinos, shorts, sun dresses, swimwear, sandals, pumps, sun glasses and a hat should suffice. No need for heavy clothes.

toffeewhirl · 16/05/2012 17:28

Not even a blazer or cardigan in the evening?

I'd go for a plain knee length dress like this and a black maxi dress like this so you can wear them from day to night, and dress up with nice shoes and jewellary. I'd get nice sandals you can wear day to evening too like these and flipflops for the beach.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/05/2012 18:41

A light denim or chambray shirt, worn open, might be better than a cardigan/blazer unless you need to be dressed up at all.

Agree re a couple of jersey dresses (though I'd avoid polyester like the plague) for dressing up or down/day or night.

I think you'll need a pair of flipflops for the beach and a pair of flat or v low wedge sandals for sightseeing. I doubt you'd need anything dressy, shoe-wise but pretty flip flops would do, if you do.

You deffo shouldn't need jeans.

JesusWept · 16/05/2012 18:45

Shorts, tshirts, couple nice dresses, beachwear, couple of nice tops and skirts. One pair of beachy type shoes for the day, one pair of nice sandals for evening.

No jeans, no blazers.

snowballinashoebox · 16/05/2012 19:34

and a bikini.

mirpuppet · 16/05/2012 22:11

I don't think a blazer is such a bad idea -- it smartens things up and can be useful on the plane.

I went to the south of France last June and I did wear a jacket in the evening so I wouldn't be cold.

I also froze when I went to Seville but it was weird weather (like we are having in the UK now).

toffeewhirl · 16/05/2012 22:20

Hmm, might take the blazer then (also have to think of the weather in the UK when we come back) and one thin cardigan.

How many swimsuits do people normally take? Dh thinks I only need one Hmm.

Browsing dresses now...

Seville? You lucky girl! Usually v. hot in June, so agree you need fewer woolly jumpers. Also you only have 2 bottoms, so more are needed. You probably need more than 1 swimsuit. On the coast will you be on beach/pool every day? If so, would be nice to have a change. Otherwise you'll be washing it every night.

I love these stripy B.Young dresses;

www.kikisboutique.com/shop/by-brand/b-young

I like this one in particular;

www.kikisboutique.com/item/BYoung/Baco-Strap-Dress/AX7

It's floaty but not too short.

If you want to splash out, how about something like this for the evening;

www.kikisboutique.com/item/Emily-and-Fin/Delilah-Dress/B4K

If you're wanting to cover your legs maybe try a maxi dress as SickOnMyShoulder suggested or some leggings?

I hope you find something suitable! I'm so jealous, wish I was going to Seville! xx

For Holiday shopping go to Amazon .They have great range of dresses, tees, shorts, swimwear and what not. Can save 25% on it on top.

ToffeeWhirl · 19/05/2012 04:03

Thanks so much for the advice and all those useful links. I'm going to get some cropped chinos, shorts, a bikini that I can mix and match with the tankini, plus a dress. Shopping spree coming up... Smile.
