Jeans for wide hips that won't end up gapping at the back please - help

I've lost a lot of weight recently and have finally conceded that I need to get some new jeans as my old ones are just far too baggy now and are beginning to look daft pulled in by my belt.

I went into Next as their petite jeans have always been a good fit for me in the past and was thrilled to find that the size 8's fitted - at least around my hips, when they got up to my waist, they were fairly lose with a huge gap at the bottom of my back that I could easily get a hand down.

I hate clothes shopping and the thought of going from shop to shop with 2 year old DD in tow getting more and more bored by the second does not appeal at all so I thought I'd ask on here if anyone can suggest somewhere where I might find jeans that might fit better?

They need to be fairly cheap and with a high-ish waist as I still have a very wobbly tummy thanks to all the stretched out skin my pregnancies have left me with and it will just hang over the top of lower cut jeans no matter how much weight I lose.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I still go shopping assuming I'm fat and it's making finding things to suit my new shape quite hard.

Primark jeans (or any alternative cheap jeans)and a good dry cleaner to hack a triangle out of the back and make them fit.

Dollydowser · 15/05/2012 23:03

I feel your pain, my waist is 10" smaller than my waist. I found some in Wallis that fitted well.

AlpinePony · 15/05/2012 23:11

Ironic isn't it, that a classical "waist 10" smaller than hips" causes problems. :(

Anyway OP, I like "urbanwear" stuff - fits like a dream e.g., Rocawear, Babyphat - beware the bling - but normall you can find something quite subtle which fits!

drywhiteplease · 15/05/2012 23:13

Levi's curver ID?

Stevie77 · 15/05/2012 23:42

Gap curvy straight (or boot if you like) jeans. You can find them fairly cheaply in gap outlets.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/05/2012 23:56

Levis ID curve thingamajigs

CointreauVersial · 16/05/2012 00:10

I have the "gaping waistband" problem, despite the fact that I'm not hugely curvy, but I don't think there is any substitute for just trying loads of pairs on. In loads of shops. Even the same brand can vary wildly on fit.

Sorry, not the answer you really want, is it? Grin

Blatherskite · 16/05/2012 10:08

No it's no Cointreau.

I guess it's a good excuse for leaving the kids with Dh while I go shopping though. There's a Levi shop, a Wallis and a GAP in the shopping centre so at least I could check them all in one trip.

Where will I be likely to find Urbanwear Alpine?

Reiss Jeans have worked for me. Apparently you should be looking for mid rise. I fully epect to try on about 40 pairs of jeans before finding a pair that fits! I am a classic hourglass - 10 inches between my waist and hips/bust - shopping is hard work.

Blatherskite · 16/05/2012 11:13

I've just measured - I've been avoiding tapes for a long time so had no idea - I have a 28" waist and 36.5" hips so pretty much hour glass.

Gap do a 'curvy' cut jean.

mpiskoto · 16/05/2012 14:39

Ha! try finding a pair with 27'' waist and 40'' hips... Thank god my tummy has remained flat even after pregnancy and I always opt for low cut jeans, thus minimizing the gaping problems. Go as low cut as you can and always opt for stretchy jeans that can adapt more to the body. Sorry I don't know specific brands... it is an ongoing quest for me as well...

AlpinePony · 16/05/2012 15:49

mpiskoto - I have a bigger difference than you and i swear by babyphat.

Bunbaker · 16/05/2012 16:29

I have 12" between my hips and waist and my best fitting jeans are Gap curvy and a pair of Saltworks jeans from TK Maxx. The Gap ones are "mid" rise, but a little too low rise for me, but the Saltworks are absolutely brilliant. They also have a lot of stretch in them.

I alos have a pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans (also from TK Maxx) that have a slight gap on the waist, but look absolutely fine with a belt.

ZZMum · 16/05/2012 16:45

I have 15" gap between waist and hips - and find the curve range works best for me .. also need to go for low cut jeans otherwise land up with too much waist bunching..

mpiskoto · 17/05/2012 21:33

AlpinePony - Thanks for the tip! I will try losing some weight in the following months and then I will check these out!

CardiCorgi · 18/05/2012 08:01

Gap work for me too (12" difference). Another brand that surprised me were Howies, I thought that they would be made for snake-hipped surfer girls but actually they fitted me really nicely. I can check which ones they were once I have rescued them from the washing machine.

herbaceous · 18/05/2012 08:11

I have this problem too, and just got some Levis demi curve - usually about £80 - for £25 in TK Maxx! So, get yourselves down there!

Bunbaker · 18/05/2012 08:24

TK Maxx is brilliant for jeans. My best buys came from there. It is a bit hit and miss and a bit like rummaging at a jumble sale, but so worth it.

Blatherskite · 18/05/2012 17:35

There is a TK Maxx in the city centre but I hate it. I think it's because I hate clothes shopping. When I need something, I want to go in, see it on a rail and pick it up, I can't stand the rummaging and the searching, it takes ages and frustrates me when I find something I like but it's not in my size. I avoid sales for the same reason. I'd rather pay full price than have to search through the whole shop

I know exactly what you mean Blathers. Some branches are better than others though. Some of them are too jumble saley for me, but some are more ordered.

I, too, prefer to walk into a shop and see exactly what I want. I find H & M a bit too all over the place as well.

40notTrendy · 18/05/2012 20:30

Wow! Thought I was a bit abnormal, I've got 10" difference too. I've only ever had 2 pairs of perfect jeans. Boden wide legs from about 5 yrs ago (crap since) and my maternity jeans Blush.
Wallis do a good pair of slim leg jeans. Got an on line sale at mo. My were navy twill I think.

AlpinePony · 20/05/2012 08:19

I have a 15" difference, on the upside didn't really need maternity clothes. :/

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/05/2012 11:28

You might have an excessive curvature of the lower spine called a lordosis, it's not a problem and I didnt really notice mine until my uni tutors pointed it out.

You can have jeans altered though, you need a V shaped piece taken out by a tailor.

Blatherskite · 20/05/2012 11:45

I've often wondered if I could have something like that Fluffycloud. I get very uncomfortable if I have to stand straight for a long time and can't lie flat on my back comfortably unless I have my knees up. I always look like I'm slouching too
