Can you recommend me a make up brush?

Two actually! Smile

I've got a lovely big fat brush I use for putting on powder/bronzer, and a blusher brush with an angled edge, both of which are at the end of their life. I got them from Sephora in the states so can't get the same again. Do you have particular brands you love?

Thanks!

I have MAC brushes and they're very good quality & should last for years. Have a look on the MAC site & see if you like the look of them.

I like Bobbi Brown brushes.

I love Bobbi Brown brushes too. I use the Face Blender brush for powder (and use cream blush so either use fingers or foundation brush for that).

Real Techniques which you can get in Boots are cheaper, and just as good, in my experience. MAC brushes are over priced and overrated.

Body shop ones are v good

ruby22 · 15/05/2012 16:40

Surprisingly so considering they were quite cheap

I just chucked my 17-year old Bobbi Brown blusher brush and replace it with the new Liz Earle one which is lovely and soft and doesn't spread too much powder on you, and costs £15. I read it recommended in the papers at the weekend. I recommend it too.

Body Shop brushes are also good but not quite the same standard. MAC are fab.

Body shop are brilliant and cruelty free, it that matters to you, can't bring myself to use mac for that reason.

BoboksAndCot · 15/05/2012 19:16

Thank you for the responses! It's my birthday coming up and I thought I'd treat myself! GobblesKnob May I ask what MAC do? I use their foundation, I didn't realise their were ethical issues? Confused

Most of their brushes are animal hair, (though some are synthetic) this always surprises me as they don't test on animals and usually the two things go hand in hand, ie cruelty free make up brands usually make synthetic brushes - Body Shop, Urban Decay, Hard Candy etc.

BoboksAndCot · 15/05/2012 21:15

Oh horrid! Body shop, Real techniques and Bobbi brown to look at then!

Real Techniques are fab - I have their core collection and also the stippling brush. They are very reasonably priced as well. I bought a load of brushes for no other reason than to treat myself, previously all my brushes were Body Shop (well, I still have them!) most of them are 10 years + old and still are just the same. Really really good quality IMO, although I didn't get along with the shape of the blusher brush and I never use the foundation brush.

I bought an Urban Decay blusher brush, and it's ok. A Stila number 9 all over blend brush which is FAB, but don't actually know if it's animal or synthetic? I also bought a MAC 210 - fine liner brush - as despite looking in every single shop in town the other week I simply couldn't find a cheaper version. Works well though.

Try Purple dot brushes - I've got a few and the handle is lovely to hold. (google them). Also a brand called Louise Young cosmetics are supposed to be excellent (not got any though). If you look up the website Pixiwoo, these make up artists are very good at showing how to use different brushes.
