I need reading glasses - how do I avoid looking like a Granny?

It has dawned on me that I do need glasses for reading/close work.... I tried on my sister's yesterday and they worked a treat! She said she just bought them in Tescos as they're just the magnifying kind, not prescription.

I will of course get my eyes tested properly..... but are all reading glasses like those thin rectangular ones that you peer over when looking up from Reader's Digest?

Of course not!

Until recently I had some lovely Paul Smith reading glasses a bit like this -- until they were stolen.

Get along to a good optician. You will be amazed how much money you can spend at they stylish glasses on offer.

I'm so Envy! Would LOVE to have Dame Edna style reading glasses on a chain that I could peer over in a censorious way. Would need a short Betty Page fringe, vintage tea dress and filthy strappy heels. Voila, the Slut Librarian look.
Curse my myopia.

Love it Silk.

I find I am channelling Jenny Eclair with my black framed ones. Just need to up my lippy a bit and I'm her twin Grin

had a browse in Boots earlier and was disappointed to find reading glasses positioned next to tena pads and rubber stabilising gizmos for walking sticks.

are there any relatively cheap but stylish reading glasses out there?
I can imagine going and getting some paul smith ones and then destroying them ten minutes later. Ideally I'd have about 5 pairs of cheap but amazingly stylish ones!

I am definitely keen on getting a cord or something to keep them round my neck.

Primark do lots of options for about £1.50 a pair. Lots of funky colours so I am planning to become my MIL with about 20 pairs of reading glasses distributed liberally around the house and in every bag I own. (To save me wandering around having a senior moment searching for them) Grin

fantastic! it would never have occured to me to look in Primark. I bet I end up giving in and getting a swanky designer pair as well though....

Instead of a cord I have a circular pendant that one arm of the glasses hooks into. Much better than a cord (even a rather swanky necklace like string of beads one I had once) as the glasses lie flat.
