Your recommendations for a nice, inexpensive shampoo

Have used Aveda for years as love the smell and how soft it leaves my hair but can't justify the expense any more.

Have tried Pantene/Elvive but find the scents really overpowering and synthetic. Am looking for something affordable that feels a bit more "natural" and is nourishing (as I colour my hair).

What do you use?

I love the Aussie shampoos and conditioners.
I've used a few different ones - all are lovely, no overpowering scent. The do one specifically for coloured hair, but I've not used that one.

Also the Green people Vitamain shampoo is wonderful - more expensive but probably my favourite ever.

FunnysInLaJardin · 14/05/2012 15:13

I swapped from Kerstace/Aveda to Aussie a few years ago when I could no longer justify the expense and have never changed back. Aussie Mega shampoo is just as good as any other I have used.

sugarice · 14/05/2012 15:14

Gliss hair products are lovely and the leave in Conditioner is brill.

Peppin · 14/05/2012 15:16

Thanks all. Haven't heard of Gliss or Green People so will look those up. Have used Aussie Mega years ago and it was nice, I must have another look next time in Boots.

Body shop sulfate free range

sugarice · 14/05/2012 15:35

Gliss is by Scharwkopf and available in Superdrug, great stuff.

covermeup · 14/05/2012 15:41

I absolutely swear by Herbal Essences. It's cheap but has gone up in price recently so if its not on offer in Tesco I get their own version of Herbal Essences and in my opinion there is no difference.

I wash my hair every day so need a shampoo and conditioner that aren't too heavy or dehydrating and find these work perfectly for me! It did take me a good fews years of trying every single brand to find out which suited my hair best though!

LukeWarmMomma · 14/05/2012 16:36

Gliss shampoos and conditioners are also in Poundland - bargin Smile !! and they are actually very good indeed

BerryLellow · 14/05/2012 16:42

I've just started using Aussie products again after years of expensive ones, and I have to say they are really good. I do think they smell strongly, though not as bad as Pantene.

Krumbum · 14/05/2012 16:48

I've just started using garnier fructis, I'd forgotten about them because they don't seem to advertise anymore lol. But my hair feels really light and soft and the shampoo smells really nice a bit like fresh grass and lightly floral.

coffeeinbed · 14/05/2012 16:51

I just got a new bottle of Panthene and it reeks of that horrid chemical bubble gum-ey smell.
It didn't use to be like this? Did they change it when the changed the packaging as well?
I wasn't bothered before and have been using it for ages. It's stinky now.

scarlettsmummy2 · 14/05/2012 16:56

I've been using vo5 for coloured, it's in a bright pink bottle. Really like it.

PostBellumBugsy · 14/05/2012 16:58

Alberto range is really good (no parabens either) and only £1 a pop.

BrianButterfield · 14/05/2012 17:01

I used to use Aveda Shampure before I went on maternity leave! The best cheap alternative I've found so far is VO5 Give Me Moisture - 99p on offer in various places and really leaves it soft and shiny.

SmallShips · 14/05/2012 17:07

Dove is the best cheap shampoo. I use the damage control one, blue writing I think and it leaves my hair lovely and soft.

suebfg · 14/05/2012 19:13

Aussie - smells gorgeous

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 14/05/2012 19:27

Aussie all the way

ethelb · 14/05/2012 19:33

The lush bottled ones don't have silicon and aren't as expensive as professional shampoos.

Peppin · 14/05/2012 20:52

Getting lots of votes for Aussie Mega - will have to give it a try once more. Like the sound of the fresh-smelling Garnier Fructis as well. Just can't stand the really overwhelming aromas lots of shampoos seem to have nowadays.

Peppin IKWYM about the price of Aveda but my DH buys me a litre bottle of the Shampure and it lasts us a year. He washes his hair daily, I do my shoulder length hair once a week.
At the moment I've got Micheal DeCsare (I love his Jumbo Oat Wash but he's stopped this one, now it's Copper Peptide which is nice but not as nice).
I don't really buy small bottles now, the big bottles are an investment, but I find they last .

ConstanceChatterley · 14/05/2012 21:15

I always feel like the only one who doesn't 'get' Aussie - smells amazing yes, but doesn't seem to do much really.

Tres Semme isn't very good but their Naturals range (paraben, sulphate and silicone free) is really good. And usually only on 2 for £5 or 3 for £10 in supermarkets for massive 900ml bottles. Nice shiny, swishy hair.

BrianButterfield · 14/05/2012 21:16

I agree, CC - the VO5 has been better for me than Aussie (which I used for ages because I liked the smell).

Charliefox · 14/05/2012 21:51

Well the one that's won lots of awards for best everyday shampoo is, surprisingly, the original Head and Shoulders.

marilynwhirlwind · 14/05/2012 22:22

I love Happy Hair Days used to buy it from boots but they don't seem to stock it anymore. I have been able to get it from Sainsbury's though.

KellyKapowski · 14/05/2012 22:27

I like the Tresemme Naturals one, nice and gentle and doesn't smell too overpowering.

Use it on the kids as well.
