Can anyone recommend any for greasy roots? I'm sick of relying on batiste!

I recommend elvive for mid to long hair that gets greasy - really really good shampoo that cleans the scalp well.

SugarBatty · 14/05/2012 14:20

Thanks is that the l'oreal one?

I asked my hairdresser about this last time I went to her and she told me that Herbal Essences, L'Oreal and Pantene all use silicone that coat the hair to makes it shiny but fail to properly degrease it, so you end up in a daily washing cycle which only serves to make your already greasy roots greasier.

She said to use Tresemme or any of the other brands without silicone in- so I did and also started washing my hair every other day (but yes, with Batiste for my fringe which gets a bit greasy!) and I must say I have seen the difference and whereas before I had greasy roots and dry ends, now my hair is looking a lot better. Also, don't know if this applies to you, but I am an enhanced red-head and constant washing is just chucking that expensive colouring down the drain!

This may be BS but it wasn't benefiting her to tell me, and I have seen a difference. An interesting (and more scientific) article explaining why silicone is bad for your hair and another one explaining what the flip all the ingredients in shampoo are (who knew?)

Tresseme does have silicone, the only one that doesn't is the Tresseme naturals range.

Just as an aside, I noticed my hair had gone back to being greasy recently after eating total rubbish (lots of sugar and dairy) the last few weeks. Over the last 8 months I have been dieting and I've realised in hindsight that my hair was no longer greasy. Any one else notice diet/greasy hair connection?

Lush Shampoo bars - Seanik is good, but any will do. They also do a conditioner bar.

Well before I got pg with ds I was on weightwatchers and didn't notice this as much so it is probably diet related. Another incentive to joining weightwatchers again! I will look for sillicone free shampoos on the meantime.

I've been using Paul Mitchell Clarifying shampoo, it's the no 2 in the range. It has a lovely lemony smell to it and leaves my hair squeaky clean. It's a bit ££ but very concentrated so you don't need much.

SugarBatty · 14/05/2012 15:58

Suze can u buy that in shops or just in salons? I'm willing to pay because its worth it in the long run

I buy it from a local salon, I bought a new 500ml sized bottle last week for £12.70. Do you have a SuperCuts near you? They definitely sell it. You can also buy a 300ml size which will cost a bit less. A 20p sized amount is all you need.

dictionarydiva · 15/05/2012 11:36

Krumbum yeah sorry should have said the Naturals range Blush

Gillybobs · 15/05/2012 15:38

Head and shoulders is the only shampoo that keeps my hair clean for two days. DH has used it for years and i used it by default one morning and it's incredible for keeping hair from becoming greasy.

SugarBatty · 15/05/2012 17:06

I'll try head and shoulders someone else recommended vosene too.
