What are people wearing to work these days?

I'm returning to work after a year as a SAHM, and before that a 5-year job working from home, so my work wardrobe is non-existant.

I'm not in the UK so am not after shop suggestions per se, but types of clothes, outfits, etc.

Public sector but behind the scenes, doing presentations and involved in meetings - I don't think I have to be suited and booted, but presentable.

I'm 38, 5"9' and a size 10/12. All suggestions and ideas welcome.

Thanks. :)

Decent, comfortable black trousers and a pair of smart black court shoes. Covers a multitude Grin

I have job that requires smart/casual, no jeans, no suits really ..........I bought straight/wide leg tro in navy and black, a little black a line just above knee skirt (could use pencil too) and mix and match these with a variety of fitted cardigans, fitted tops (love Breton), scarves and necklaces and different coloured ballet boots in colder weather.
Also have a few dresses too.

Similar to drywhite- straight legged trousers and A line skirts with blouses, tops and cardigans. I also have a decent blazer for when I need to look a bit smarter.

Lots of nice scarves too.

I wear dresses mainly. Jersey type ones that are smart not casual. I have to drive a lot and they tend to stay looking unrumpled.

I work in the public sector. I wear slim fit trousers or a black thick jersey pencil skirt and, occasionally, smart dark denim skinny boot jeans. I pair with fitted shirts, bretons, fitted tanks or cardigans, fitted crew neck cashmere sweaters or blouses. I have lots of scarves and necklaces and dangly earrings that I alternate. I tend to wear kitten heel shoe boots, high heel ankle boots or heeled / wedge shoes of the patent variety

Bloody winter clothes. Am so bored of them

Arana · 13/05/2012 09:07

I live in Oz, so seasons are reversed, but I wear knee length or slightly above the knee fitted skirts and smart tops or blouses. I usually wear these with ballet flats (cos I don't do heels) or smart knee length boots when it's a bit chilly.

I can interchange the skirts with smart trousers or skinny jeans (but smart ones iykwim).

Jacket if I've got a client meeting, sleeve length variable depending on the temp. I've just splashed out on a really nice fitted long sleeved blouse - tucked into a plain skirt it looks pretty smart :)

Arana · 13/05/2012 09:09

Oh yeah, and bling/scarf if my outfit is plain, and minimalist accessories if the outfit has lots of colour/pattern.

MarianForrester · 13/05/2012 09:09

A dress with a naice cardigan. Or a white shirt under it if it's ever warm. Always heels.

Don't mean to hijack but has anyone seen a little fitted cream/white sleeve blouse with Peter pan collar? I missed the DP one?

southeastastra · 13/05/2012 22:00

disco pants

i tend to wear dresses with mary janes plus matching belt and a shitload of jewellery. my fave dresses at the mo are a couple of crepe Episode ones in navy and red. I work for a v large corporate, I'm a seniorish manager but in a creative field so i don't need to be totes formal, suited and booted - so similar to you, i guess.

Just posted about this on another thread and uploaded a pic on my profile of said look if you're that interested Smile
