Heated rollers

Bit scared as I've never been on this bit of the site before! I need a bit of help and advice: DD (16) has naturally curly hair, which is great for being informal as she looks like a surf chick. It's long (past her shoulders). I have read that heated rollers are the way to tame curly hair into more tidy curls/waves for smarter occasions. Is this true?
If so, could you recommend a make/model which is not too expensive (incase she doesn't like the effect)but is effective?
TIA

I would just get velcro ones (dirt cheap from places such as Home Bargains, Bodycare or somewhere) and put them into wet hair, then allow the hair to dry whilst on the rollers (or use a hairdryer on a low setting to help it dry once set on the rollers).

I have amazing heated rollers called Enrapture Extremity which you can get for about £50 on ebay (they are £75 on amazon Shock and £100 elsewhere Shock Shock) but I think it would be quite hard to get a nice result on curly hair with heated rollers - they are fiddly IMO (unless you can get someone else to put them in for you - I can do my sister's hair quite well but rubbish at my own). Setting hair on velcro rollers when wet is much much easier to do.

Have you thought about trying a heated curling wand? You can get one of those for £20 or so and they are easy to use (and quicker than setting on rollers).

Her hair sounds like mine and yes, heated rollers do tame thick curly, wavy hair.

Firstly, only use on dry hair and apply serum from half way down the hair beforehand. Only use rollers without teeth as these are for fine hair. Go for the ones that have a velvet feel. I use babyliss ones, available from Argos/ boots etc. see here. Use the large ones only; two on top, one one each side and the rest at the back. Leave for 20 mins. The weight of her hair will allow the curl to drop a little, but it will old its style of a couple of days.
