Lip waxing - anyone had any experience?

I am considering having my upper lip waxed, but I'm worried that regrowth will look like stubble, or grow back thicker and darker. Has anyone had any experience of this?

I have mine done. It is gradually growing back finer and needs doing less often. Go for it.

I have mine Sugared ( think that's similar to waxing )
Makes my eyes water , but is so worth it .
No , you won't get a thick bristly stubble , so don't worry.

Thanks Chubfuddler, I think I will. Does it hurt?

yes not really, it's so quick.

DontmindifIdo · 11/05/2012 13:05

it doesn't grow back stubbly like it's been cut, it grows back like it was before as it's been ripped out and it's new hair.

Go for hot wax rather than warm with strips. It hurts less. take a hand mirror with you, it'll feel like it's bright red and looks odd for ages, but it won't be IYSWIM.

I have it dome too - definitely good and very little discomfort.

hazchem · 11/05/2012 16:10

Oh and don't touch it afterwards! If I happen to touch it a couple of times after it's been done I seam to end up with pimples. Hands off til the next day.

purplewithred · 11/05/2012 16:13

I diy. Normally after a single glass of wine, and you do need to make sure you get on with it rather than leaving the strip on while you gird your loins. But a) it's cheap and b) it's private. No walking out of the beauty salon with a telltale glowing upper lip.

It is ridiculously easy to do yourself, like all waxing really, bar the bits you cannot reach. Makes my eyes water though.

lynniep · 11/05/2012 16:19

I was a latecomer to all this malarkey. Bleached my 'tache for 20 years, and then just before my 37th birthday last year I decided to go for the wax! and actually, like other people have said - I think its finer than before. I hate having it done, but its a couple of seconds of discomfort for several weeks of unhairiness!! I'd go for it! I wouldnt do it myself though - I pay a nice lady seven pounds of my hard earned!

KellyKapowski · 11/05/2012 16:26

I did my own last week using veet strips and got little whiteheads sprout up.

Is there anyway to avoid this, or does it just not agree with my skin?

Quenelle · 11/05/2012 16:29

The first time I did it the redness lasted a long time. I think it took several days to calm down. Now I can do it after a shower on a Saturday morning and it's fine in a couple of hours. I used to do it every couple of weeks now I can go about a month.

I recommend putting Witchhazel gel on straight afterwards. It's very soothing.

Methe · 11/05/2012 16:29

I used to wax it myself but now get itthreaded when I get my eyebrows done. Threading much better and longer lasting ime and it only takes a few moments.

It does bloody hurt though!

valiumredhead · 11/05/2012 16:39

I just do it myself with cold was strips.

valiumredhead · 11/05/2012 16:39
