how old is too old for superdry?

hi, am not normally one to follow trends or branded labels but have been looking for a hooded jacket lately due to all the rain and have come across a really nice black one. but it is superdry, would it look too try hard for a 30-something mum of 2? dont know if its mainly worn by teenagers? i really love the jacket though, not tech savvy enough to do links but its black with pink lining and a hood. have also heard it comes up small so will get bigger size.

has anyone got one? what do you think?

I have a few superdry hoodies - I find them warm and good quality. I'm a size 12 and go for the M or L depending on how fitted the style is.
(I'm 44 btw)

Trills · 11/05/2012 09:58

There's no such thing as "too old" for clothing.

That's what I always say on these threads

But things with labels and names all over them are just not very nice, so I'd say you're too old for Superdry when you are old enough and wise enough to realise this.

RobinSparkles · 11/05/2012 10:02

I'm 28, so only a tiny bit younger than you, and I have a Superdry Jacket. I've had it a couple of years and it's lasted. It'll probably last a couple more too.

It's the same one that Simon's girlfriend wears, in The Inbetweeners :o.

RobinSparkles · 11/05/2012 10:03

I didn't even know what Superdry was when I bought it, btw. I just liked the style of the jacket.

peasandlove · 11/05/2012 10:48

I'm 37 and I love my superdry hoody, it's thick and warm and well made. Just go for it

imnotmymum · 11/05/2012 10:53

Well I had this worry as both my eldest DD NEEDED a Superdry coat. I needed [as in really needed as my zip broke] but could not do it as I think they are for the yoof. However I have got superdry trackies, hoodie etc but the coat...

startail · 11/05/2012 11:23

Peasandlove hits the nail on the head.

DD (14) and her 44 yo mum both have Animal hoodies because they are actually WARM!

I'm told superdry coats work as well as having pose value. Sadly I'd need an extra large at least so can't find out.

Given how awful Next etc. quality is I can't see any reason why we shouldn't knock the teens stuff.

There's a beautiful navy Holster zip through hoodyWink

startail · 11/05/2012 11:25

Knick, I wish auto correct wouldn't change correct wordsAngry

AgeingFop · 11/05/2012 12:22

What Trills said. No such thing as being too old for something.

OTOH, I don't like much of the SuperDry stuff. Writing on things is fine if it is small and dicreet, but much of the SD range seems to be positively emblazoned with it.

echt · 11/05/2012 12:53

Read "old" and "super dry" and wondered how anyone could be too old for Tena.

The Tenapause. :o

Trills · 11/05/2012 12:55

This is a better kind of superdry

cocolepew · 11/05/2012 12:58

My DD has had a SD coat for the past 3 years, I amazed at how well it has lasted. Washed really well and nothing broke on it, included the 50 million zips on it.

MrsNouveauRichards · 11/05/2012 13:15

Tbh, I think anything with a name on it immediately looks a bit try hard on anyone over about 18.

The reason a lot of men in their 30's and 40's wear stuff that is cool for teens is because they are trying to be trendy and can actually afford it :o

Ryoko · 11/05/2012 16:59

Theres no age limit for anything IMO, not even mini skirts (if you look like Joanna Lumely).

I'd never wear SuperDry tho, they are just a fake cash in on the Japanese style market, I'd rather wear things from a proper Japanese brand like Uniqlo then an English brand pretending to be a Japanese brand, pretending to be American.

PoppyWearer · 11/05/2012 20:34

I told 37yo DH he was too old for Abercrombie and Fitch (he is - he bought it in the States unsupervised) and Jack Wills (definitely, although his jogging pants and rugby shirt lasted FOREVER) so he switched to Superdry.

My problem with Superdry is it's the only teen brand in our local town, so every other person wears it! The ones who don't are all in Hollister, Boden, White Stuff, Fat Face and Joules.

RightUpMyRue · 11/05/2012 20:37

I'm 33 and have a Superdry jacket. I didn't even consider I might be too old for it.

yummytummy · 12/05/2012 17:56

dancingwithdragons, yes, thats it the first one, black with pink lining.

ooh am torn so many conflicting opinions. i like the bicester outlet idea, has anyone been there is it good? would mean a long trip though.

or could order online. i think i will just have to do it cant stop thinking about it! thanks for all your thoughts!

I agree with MrsNouveauRichards it's the over the top branding which makes it look like a teenage brand - kids need branding to feel like they belong. The jackets have a nice cut - but the branding is too much.

dexter73 · 12/05/2012 18:52

Bicester outlet has a load of crap. They very rarely have any nice stuff that isn't an XS.

DancingwithDragons · 12/05/2012 19:51

When i went into the Biscester one it was full of people, i mean you could not move for people, i have no idea what they sell cause i could not get with 2ft of the tables, also the place had a similar vibe to Holister although i do shop there.

CointreauVersial · 12/05/2012 21:15

There's an outlet store in Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays too. DS wanted a hoody, and it was just about affordable there.

RichT64 · 21/05/2024 16:10

I'm 60 and still wear Super Dry ....

RichT64 · 21/05/2024 16:11

I'm 60 and still wear Super Dry shorts

NeedWineNow · 21/05/2024 16:25

It wouldn't occur to me that I couldn't or shouldn't buy an item of clothing that suited me just because I might be considered too old for the shop! I picked up a new with tags SuperDry full length duvet coat in the charity shop, and DH has a thick SuperDry padded jacket. He's also got swimshorts and flip flops from there, although they were an emergency purchase bought onboard the ship on our last cruise as he discovered when we were unpacking that he'd forgotten to bring any.

I've also rediscovered River Island as they have some great things in just lately. I'd probably be considered too old to shop in there as well.

I'm 61 and DH is 70.

yummytummy · 10/05/2012 22:09

well. 67 thats great (ignores bibbity with her 16...)

i guess if the age thing is ok, next thing to worry about is sizing. am a 12 but have heard need to get 2 sizes up?

That's because they don't do vanity sizing. I've been clearing out old clothes and I'm a fairly regular 16 but my old 18s barely fit and I've even a 20 which I'm almost into
