Rosewater as a toner

I've been using the oil cleansing method for a couple of months now and love it so I thought I would try some more natural skincare products. I made an impulse purchase of some rosewater today (a whole 79p!) and would like some tips on how to use it. I've heard it makes a good toner so how do I do it?
By itself?
Mixed with tap water? In what proportions?
Apply with cotton or put it in a spray bottle?
Let it dry completely before putting on moisturiser etc?
Avoid eye area?

I have dry sensitive skin which loves oil. I've been using Avene Thermal Spring Water as a toner for the last few months and that's going well but would love to give rosewater a go.
All tips welcome - thanks!

My mother has always made toner from Rosewater mixed 50:50 with Witch hazel, both of which she buys from the chemist and mixes at home.

She taught me to use it when I began trying on make-up while dressing up as a child, and I have used this routine ever since - am 44 this year. Mother still uses it at 71. We both have good skin.

I use cold cream or Nivea as a cleanser - rubbed on gently with fingers then wiped off, along with make-up using tissue/loo roll.
Then small piece of cotton wool with Rosewater/witch-hazel toner all over. It dries quickly on its own.
Then moisturise . Mother uses Avon,I don't always bother, but when I do,it's Avon ( I get some for Christmas from Mum) or probably Nivea,or more recently baby bum cream as got wind burned when cycling at the weekend!

The smell of rosewater is very comforting to me!

Ooh where did you buy it from? I've had my eye out for some recently but couldn't find it in town!

Rosewater,witch-hazel or baby bum cream? Grin

Little ,independent, old fashioned chemists are good for all three !

witch hazel and rosewater

My skin is dry too and I can hardly tolerate witch hazel at all, I just use neat rosewater. It's great for straight after oil cleansing to tone and remove any last traces of the cleansing oil. I use it on it's own as a daily cleanser on cotton wool pads and then again to tone, after that a dab of argan oil or avocado oil. My skin has never been more lovely, well, not in years anyway.

I used it to make up face masks and keep a wee spray bottle of it in my bag for dampening tissues to clean toddler faces. Also good when your skin is feeling hot and tired out and about.

Oh, also keep some mixed about 30:70 with water in a spray bottle for DD's hair (needs dampening before I brush it in the mornings), her hair looks silkier for it but I originally only added it because she so loves the smell.

Oh, and you need to check if it's actual rosewater or water with rose essence added...

The latter wont do any harm but wont really work much better than soft water.

I noticed rose water in Holland and Barrett yesterday and wondered what I could use it for... Don't know if it was natural though.

MrsLettuce where do you get avocado oil from may I ask?

Lottapianos · 10/05/2012 21:41

I use avocado oil too and flipping love it! I got mine in Sainsburys. Think you can get it in Holland and Barrett too. I also like olive oil.
