I went shopping today as I have 3 weddings to go to this year (with no overlap of guests at any of them) and I finally fit back into a size 12. I fell in love with this, it is 20% off with the code at the top of the screen. But that is still a hell of a lot of £ for me at the moment. Would I be able to wear it for years and years? or do you think it would date and go out of fashion? I also tried on this. Do you think the FC one is worth the extra £? If I go with the cheaper one I am stuck between the coral and the blue, could anyone give me any tips on what colour shoes etc to wear with each of them?

Please also feel free to tell me if they are all hideous and I should start again Smile

The FC dress is beautiful but 80% of 285 quid is still a lot of money. The other one doesn't do it for me tbh. There are so many gorgeous dresses out there at the moment that I'd be surprised if you can't find anything just as nice as the FC one for under 150 quid.
I'm sure the fine battalions of S&B can find something.

SocialButterfly · 09/05/2012 17:10

It's lovely but a lot of money, I like the cheaper one in coral personally.

Chrestomanci · 09/05/2012 17:10

The FC one is gorgeous, but looks difficult to wear, you'd need a tan etc, but if you could pull it off - lovely. Did you actually try it on? The reviews are quite bad, but I think they've just scored it out if 5, not left a written review which isn't so helpful. Warehouse dress is nice, but not as nice as FC, but not sure the FC one is £200 nicer!

DilysPrice · 09/05/2012 17:12

When's the first wedding btw? Will you be able to catch the sales first? My go to wedding dress is Vivienne Westwood Anglomania and it cost 125 in the sale, just as a for instance.
If you give the S&B chaps a fair chance and they don't come up trumps then FC can be your fallback.

DialsMavis · 09/05/2012 17:13

The warehouse one fits really well and the cut is very flattering, but I am not sure either of the colours are that good on me.

I like the French connection dress but personally wouldn't pay that much for it.

Going by the pictures I like the warehouse one best. The colour is lovely. The fc one could be quite draining depending on your colouring. You could go for Pale/nude shows or bright colours are 'in fashion' at the moment so maybe tangerine?

lisaneedsarest · 09/05/2012 17:18

Have you searched eBay for the fc dress? They usually have loads of fc stuff on there at highly reduced prices - usually a slight fault or something.

DialsMavis · 09/05/2012 17:20

Yep I tried it on, the first wedding isn't until end of June so I have plenty of time. Am hoping to get rid of another few lbs by then too. Am at top end if 12 now, so would hope to be a nice slim shapely 12 by end of June. The weight loss has slowed now but I've lost 17kilos since November so confident I can get some more off in 7 weeks. I'm 5ft 7 and 30. I am slim as far as my waist but I have a cs overhang and terribly fat legs, so it has to be knee length Smile

Will check eBay, whenever I look for things on there they are always at grossly inflated prices Smile

Sorry don't like either but I'm off fashion at the moment, it all looks so frumpy and childlike (yes yes I know that makes me a frump). {{http://www.warehouse.co.uk/sleeveless-floral-rouched-wrap-dress/Dresses/warehouse/fcp-product/308864 This]] is a bit sexier imo.
There's actually some nice stuff on the Tesco Online site, unfortunately you can't try it on in the shop but I assume returns are free.
What colours do you get the most compliments in?

SilkStalkings · 09/05/2012 17:41

This whoops

MediumOrchid · 09/05/2012 17:48

I wouldn't pay that much for the FC dress however nice it was, and I don't personally like it all that much. Also, have you seen it is dry clean only and 100% silk? Doesn't that mean you can't get it wet at all i.e. get rained on? Terribly impractical.

The Warehouse one is quite nice but the bodice detail is a bit odd and it's still a lot of money.

Hope you can find somethigng good!

DialsMavis · 09/05/2012 17:48

I can't wear anything that short without leggings or opaques, I afraid, You know when people say they have awful legs, and they just need a bit of fake tan or to do a few lunges for a week or 2? That isn't me, my legs are HUGE, really, really huge and flabby above the knee. Wink

Colour wise: not sure really, probably quite bright colours. I am quite pale, brown eyes, highlighted mousy hair

DialsMavis · 09/05/2012 17:54

Ahh ok not that practical then as my DC are always filthy and sticky and grabbing at me Grin

purpleloosestrife · 09/05/2012 17:57

love the FC dress - but very expensive. Not bothered about the other one - it's not got the wow factor IMHO.

Well done for weight loss (am in middle of diet for my own wedding in July!!)

DialsMavis · 09/05/2012 18:00

Good luck purple, how much are you trying to lose? Wish it was my wedding this year! I hope I am not turning into "that woman who always bangs on about how much weight she has lost" Grin. I just meant I am fairly confident that buying something that doesn't quite fit yet

4aminsomniac · 09/05/2012 18:03

I think the Tesco one is the nicest of the links, and with the right accessories could be stunning for a wedding. I'm not the right person to advise on that, but I'm sure someone can ...

Chrestomanci · 09/05/2012 18:22

any good?

CointreauVersial · 09/05/2012 18:40

I like the coral Warehouse dress. The FC is nice, but the colour would do nothing for me (personally) and it would need regular dry-cleaning being so pale.

EssentialFattyAcid · 09/05/2012 19:41

I think the Warehouse dress is nicer than the FC but I think you could do better than either of them tbh

movingmay · 09/05/2012 19:45

have you tried ebay for FC? I have some great FC for next to nought off there. Smile

SilkStalkings · 09/05/2012 20:27

The Tesco polkadot one would look quite cute over cropped black leggings, kind of rockabilly - get your ankles out! A cropped cardi or shrug in your contrast colour with matching hair clip/fascinator, handbag, shoes, chunky beads or whatever combination of these you can get to match, the rest can be black. Could be red, any shade of pink, electric blue, yellow, bright green, violet. In fact I would wear it with Converse Allstars! Even to a wedding!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/05/2012 21:06

The FC one is pretty but stupidly expensive - I don't know how on earth they think they can justify charging that much for a fairly basic looking high street dress. The Warehouse one is nice in coral but is polyester so likely to look a bit cheap irl maybe? I'm sure we could find you something in between the two tbh.

nothingoldcanstay · 09/05/2012 21:16

I really like the FC one but I know it will end up in our local FC outlet store at the end of the season because it a) v pricey for high street and b) not to everyone's taste.
Actually if you like that expensive detail then you could do worse than check out an outlet. As you are London you could get a train to Gunwharf in Portsmouth in an hour and half. It has really cheap FC discounted LK Bennett, Dune, Karen Millen, Hobbs etc. I have picked up really great dresses for literally pounds there.
Anyway just a thought..well done on getting back to a 12!
