Can I wear white to a wedding?

Is it still a dreadful faux pas? I have an extremely posh wedding to attend and have a beautiful knee lenght white shift dress. Can I wear it? Help!

Don't wear a white dress. My good friend was getting married a couple of years ago. Our friends wife was visiting and showed me her dress which was white. I am so thankful that I spoke up and told her I would not to wear the dress. While the friends wife was upset with me I didn't feel bad about it after I mentioned it to my friend who was the bride. She (the bride) told me it would have really upset her if any guest had worn white.

I would go with navy or purple for a wedding. For GBP300 something from LK bennett or hobbs should work a treat for a 'posh' wedding.

2nd hobbs dress should be this.

No. I went to a wedding (not recently) where the bridesmaids wore white trousers suites. They must have been in fashion, because one guest did also. Opps!

ok link clearly doesn't want to work - it's the Olivia dress. It's on sale too for GBP99!

My bridesmaids wore green. Everything OK 16 years laterGrin

Think I'll have to stay at home, so much superstition related to colour! Thanks for info. LKB and Hobbs too high street. Either needs to be extremely classic or a bit edgy and much more designer led. Is cream OK? Perhaps I could dye it??

LK bennett or hobbs should work a treat for a 'posh' wedding Avoid I'd say alright for lunch around town but very high street and your sure to find someone else there with it on or very similar.

If you look on matches - bet you could find a nice dress for £300.

Most of the superstition relates to getting married in certain colours so . . .

  • married in black you'll wish yourself back
  • married in red you'll wish yourself dead
  • married in yellow ashamed of your fellow
  • married in blue you'll always be true
  • married in white you've chosen alright
  • married in green ashamed to be seen

I would wear any colour as a guest apart from white/cream really.
