Diane von Furstenburg Maja dress - hideous pattern or not?

I should be incredibly grateful for any opinions on whether this is either a) stunning or b) utterly hideous. I'm considering it to wear to 3 weddings this year (all different guests) hence the much bigger price tag than I would usually consider. In other pictures of the Maja design it is belted, which looks a lot better.

I am 5'7'' and a size 16 which may assist in your judgements as to whether it would suit me or make me look like a pig in a sack :-)

Thanks in advance...!

My experience of DVF dresses (have several) is although the patterns can look scary on the hanger/ pictures - when you wear them, they seem to be very flattering and don't overpower the wearer.

They also seem to be flattering on anyone with shoulders and/or curves - I tend to think very slim angular shaped people don't look as good in in the silk jersey ones (obviously biased as a size 12/14 5ft 7 hourglass).

Ambrosius - I don't mean she looks enormous as in fat she just looks enormous compared to the picture in the other dress.

dexter - She has a belt on in the other pic so you can see her waist, fwiw I completely disagree that one is less flattering than the other. I think the looser one makes her look more model-y and slim and the belted one makes her look more curvy.
I think they're both lovely btw OP.

I've got a few DVF wrap dresses and wear them to any occassion that requires a frock. If you've got boobs and hips they are great & always get a positive comment.

Ok. I'm not trying to start a fight I'm just explaining what I said. I also explained further up why I thought the dot one was less flattering and it wasn't to do with the belt.

Sorry, I'm not trying to start a fight! I just thought enormous was a strange word to use. Sorry if I came across fighty! Thanks

I've got a classic DVF wrap in a red pattern and its very flattering but I'm an apple shape.

I think the original one you linked to would be very flattering on a pear as it would make me look like a sack of potatoes.

Could you try a selection of styles on?

And do agree that the clever thing about the DVF patterns is that they're cut in such a way to flatter your body.

I was getting scared Grin!! Should have said bigger rather than enormous.

Ambrosius · 08/05/2012 18:15

:)

The belt does help a lot with the other print.

Prefer the other one I think.

thanks very much for all the comments. am going to try the wrap dresses too - very hopeful they will look good on as they're gorgeous in the pics!
