Home Hair Dye Help please

Hi, was hoping for some advice from some more experienced home hair-dyers Grin

I have very dark brown hair naturally with quite a bit of greys silver streaks coming through the roots.

I've bought a permanent dark brown to use but my hair has lots of slightly lighter tones, especially through the ends, which I like. I don't really want to end up with all one colour dark brown hair.

I was wondering if I used a medium brown instead would it be more likely to preserve the 'tonal' look ?(because I would be hoping the very dark brown bits wouldn't actually lighten to med brown).

Would be very grateful for any tips/advice.

I've used multi tonal browns from loreal in the past which have worked quite nicely. It's still just a single application but you don't end up with a block colour.

firstly, home hair colours usually come out way darker than you expect. Medium brown is very very dark.
Secondly, if you are colouring to cover greys you need a colour at least one shade lighter than your natural colour. Using anything darker will look very harsh. You should still get adequte grey coverage, and might also have better luck with the multi-tonal thing.
Thirdly, if you like the colour of your ends, why not pick a lighter colour as I suggested, apply to roots for the first 1/3 of the development time, comb through to the mid lengths for the next 1/3 and comb through to the ends for the last 5 mins max.

Thanks for tips,

Think I'll try that bonzo
