Is it ok to wear black to a wedding?

I'm off to one of my oldest friends weddings next month and I don't have any spare cash to buy something new. Looking through my wardrobe to source possible options I've come across a smart black dress with white spots on. (Looks a lot nicer than it sounds...!)

Was thinking due to the chilly weather could wear it with my smart fitted black blazer, but then I've been thinking is black OK for a wedding? Or a bit doom and gloom? Especially as it's summer?

Thought about brightening outfit with bright accessories, shoes bag etc. Or, is it back to the drawing board?

What's the S&B verdict?

Thanks!

Look on ebay op. I got some fabulous dresses for under a tenner which I could easily wera to a wedding. Black blazer is a no go I reckon.

I think you'll be fine lots of people wear black - emerald green shoes would look amazing.
I wouldn't do black for a funeral - it looks too stylised and affected - like you have focused on your clothes rather than on the loss.

Apparently it is unlucky to wear green to a wedding so you had better add that to the colours not to be worn Wink!

Black is for funerals, and white is for brides.

OP: can you find a jacket in a different colour?
