Rhinoplasty - Yorkshire Clinic???

nosenose · 02/05/2012 00:41

I am looking to have my nose re shaped (!) and am all at sea as to where to start. I rang the yorkshire clinic who told me to choose my surgeon but offered me no advice on HOW!

I have googled them but still no nearer.

Anyone in north /west yorkshire or lancashire have any experience of this type of thing or anyone else had it done and how did you go about it?

I am keen to get started asap

Thanks

Don't know anyone in Yorkshire but do know a good one in London - Alex Karidis. Did my friends and it changed her life. V v natural result. You wouldn't look at it and think "nose job" IYKWIM. Whoever you go for should be a member of BAPS (LOL) the British Assoc of Plastic Surgeons. And they should have done lots and lots of noses. You don't want someone who mainly does boobs or facelifts but very few noses. Mr Karidis said he always asks for the opinion of his theatre staff before he finishes an op to see if they like what he's done, which I thought sounded very un-arrogant and humble. My friend said the op was far more painful after than she expected. When you see them done on TV it is often made out to be something you are over v quickly. She said she felt like she'd had a brick thrown at her face afterwards and was very congested and found it hard to sleep for a few weeks. But she was so happy and more confident afterwards. She wore clothes she wouldn't have worn before and was far more outgoing. I wish you luck nosenose.

I don't know anything about this procedure. However as you're not getting much help I wonder if it's something you could go and talk to your GP about. You clearly feel strongly about this and some support would be good. My GP has been very good at finding out who the experts are for a chronic condition of one of my children and referring DC privately. I think there is at the very least no harm in seeking your doctor's advice - though obviously not in an emergency appointment!

I had rhinoplasty and a chin implant in 1988 (God that's a long time back!) and went via my GP. He was able to refer me to a consultant he knew at the Charing Cross Hospital in London and I had the surgery on the NHS.

I don't know how much things have changed and if it would still be possible to have this sort of op on the NHS but I really would recommend you see your GP first, they might be able to recommend a surgeon even if they can't actually refer you.

My advice would be go with a surgeon who gives you an honest opinion of what is possible and the end result. They should also give you time to think about the op before you commit - I had to attend quite an indepth chat with the chap who operated on me before he was happy to set the wheels in motion for the actual op.

Please go carefully, I'm a bit worried that you seem so keen to get it done Smile Cosmetic surgery has come on in leaps and bounds in the past few years and nose jobs are now seen as ten-a-penny, but there are still some bloody awful 'surgeons' out there who will botch the job and separate you from a lot of cash in the process. Please see your GP and take it from there.
