Bridesmaid dress advice

Ok my sister gets married mid-July and she hasn't decided on a colour scheme yet. I am the only adult bridesmaids and there will be 5 child bridesmaids. I am struggling for clothes. It's a bit pants clothes shopping locally [Bath/Bristol] as I've seen tonnes of lovely dresses but nothing that suits my shape/size I'm anywhere between an 18-22 pear shaped, 36GG, 5'4 with quite chubby calves/ankles. What fits around the arse won't fit up top. Budget is small as I have to buy it all myself [and DD's who will be 1.7]. I ordered a selection of dresses from a catalogue [curvissa] and they were terrible quality/fit for the price. Would rather go somewhere to try it all on than be disappointed by the catalogues again [unless you have some good recommendations]

I saw this dress on the BHS website and it looks like it would flatter me. But its the wrong colour. Does anyone know of a similar dress in suitable wedding type colours?

Or can you suggest a dress for me... not satiny, preferrably not strapless, below knee.

It's really pretty. Could you have it professionally dyed?

kellestar · 29/04/2012 21:43

I did wonder about that, the halterneck shape usually suits me, might be worth looking into it, not sure dylon in a bucket would be good enough :)

I've always quite fancied these ones.... www.twobirdsbridesmaid.co.uk/

Never tried one, but like the look of them!

I've got 2 birds dresses for my bridesmaids in 2 weeks time. They are completely gorgeous, absolutely wearable again and suit everyone. But not cheap Sad

Ooooh great to see a good review of them, lktoday5 - they look so lovely in the pics, it's nice that they live up to expectations! They aren't cheap, but if they are very wearable then maybe better to go for those for more £££ rather than pay ££ for something that isn't that nice and that will be relegated to the back of the wardrobe after being worn the once.

Oh, nice! V expensive yes, but that's an infinity dress. They're all over the place and easy to make too...

Will look for links.

kellestar · 29/04/2012 22:13

I have a pattern for an infinity dress like this, but tbh it's a wear once dress, as I don't wear dresses normally, never go anywhere nice. Last dress I wore was my wedding dress and before that was a bridesmaids dress when i was about 9.

I'm a domestic engineer so have no money to splash about, so would prefer a cheaper option.

Have a look on www.unique-vintage.com - they have tons and tons of dresses, maybe check out a 50s style halter neck?? They don't just have vintage styles, they do modern stuff too. I've ordered from there and the customer service is very good, as are the prices.

emsyj · 29/04/2012 22:16

This one is lovely and very reasonable - altho you need to get a petticoat too.

Oooh, but this is lovely, available in 1001 colours too. Have heard good things about Lightinthebox but I've not used them myself.
