Please help me find a wedding ring - clueless

I know nothing about wedding rings at all - I have this engagement ring:

www.cooldiamonds.com/jstock/v5/web/eng/diamond-rings.jsp?goo_NE&imgRef=0,0&mac=false&saf=true&is_gecko=false&moz=false&ope=false&is_ie=false&is_fb=false&is_fx=false&is_ios=false&net=false&country=GB&lang=ENG&curr=0&screenWidth=1280&phone=020%207405%205322&email=services&currTxt=Pound&msieVer8=false

and obviously would like something that complements it. I don't just want a plain wedding band and would love a bit of bling.

Are there certain 'rules' as to what goes with my particular type of ring? I have no idea.

Confused

They seem to recommend this or this

Thumbwitch · 27/04/2012 15:32

www.goldsmiths.co.uk/categories/wedding-rings/for-her,diamond-set-wedding-rings

Or there might be something on here that appeals more

I have one like this but it's yellow gold - but then I got a bling ring because I didn't get an engagement ring. :)

Thumbwitch · 27/04/2012 15:35

ACtually, that website you linked to has matching rings on it with the option of diamond band - but since all links so far go to Design 1 of 25 of the engagement rings, you'll need to look for yourself because you know which your engagement ring actually is!

CousinBotony · 27/04/2012 15:44

Thanks Thumbwitch and Mrs Lettuce. I have looked at the ones they recommend and I am not that keen as they are a bit plain.

My engagement ring is the first one - Alisa. It is very simple so I think a blingier wedding ring would complement it!

I love your wedding ring Thumbwitch.

Thank you! me too Grin

Don't get a rhodium plated one. It wears off in 6 months and you won't want to keep sending it off. Mine looked beautiful on the day and is just meh now.

Karbea · 27/04/2012 15:57

I know this isn't you ring, but this gives you some idea of what i was thinking for you.

FauxFox · 27/04/2012 16:00

one
two
three

five

CousinBotony · 27/04/2012 16:15

FauxFox thanks - out of the those links I love number 5.

Karbea - I really like that. Where is it from?

Does anyone know whether the engagement band and wedding band need to be the same width. Does it matter?

OP posts:
Karbea · 27/04/2012 16:23

cousin mine are the same width.
My engagement ring has little diamond shoulders so I asked my jeweller to basically copy the shoulders and make an engagement ring based on them... hope that makes sense...

It's from an american jeweller, where are you? UK? I will look to see if i can find something similar...

CousinBotony · 27/04/2012 16:24

Yep I am in London.

CousinBotony - my advice would be to try a few on to see what you think looks nice and don't get too caught up in what width it "should" be.

Also, if you do decided to get an eternity band, I think it's a good idea not to have diamonds/gems the whole way around, leave a little bit of metal so that it can be resized more easily as you're (hopefully!) going to be wearing it for many years and maybe even passing it on so room for it to be altered seems prudent.

CousinBotony · 27/04/2012 16:41

Thanks FuckedOff - I hadn't thought of the resizing thing. I am useless at deciding what looks nice and I am worried about making an expensive mistake!

I have been looking in the window of a second hand jewellers near me and there are so many to choose from it is giving me palpitations.

Go find a local independent jewellers and try on some rings. It costs nothing to try on and it'll give you a better idea of what you like on your hand.

Just FYI: It tends to be standard that all white metal rings are rhodium plated which gives them a better shine. A second hand ring might seem dull in comparison but you can get it re-rhodiumed for about £20 and it lasts a year or two.

Your engagement ring is quite simple so really there's so many options for what will 'go' with your ring. It's just down to your own personal taste.

anniewoo · 27/04/2012 20:27

Anyone tried Louise Kruger diamonds? I've seen her ads in the back of upmarket magazies.

mrscumberbatch · 27/04/2012 20:32

From what i've heard her stuff is alright. A lot of marketing guff though.
