I saw a lady the other day clearly wearing a BB cream that looked Fantastic, and I am still kicking myself for not asking her what it was. I am definately after more of the dewy/light reflecting type, more of a 'sheen' and am fair to medium toned. So far Ive tried
Liz Earle SK Tint 8/10 Like a lot
No 17 BB 7/10 nice but doesnt stay the day
No 7 BB nice but again, not amazing
Garnier BB 4/10 really didnt suit me, felt like chalk, not a good look.

The quest continues......

Absolutely, I agree with everything you're saying. I was just meaning that the way western cosmetics is branded is different, but is it any better?

It's actually a really fascinating subject.

A family member is doing her diss on the way celebrity is used to market luxury branded goods in the West and the emerging Chinese and Indian markets. I sent her the links to the sites mentioned here. The 'cross pollination' of Chinese/Japanese/Korean advertising in the West is also very fascinating. Their 'cute' aesthetic translates well here doesn't it?

Hello Kitty definitely 'primed' the market. I recall the Sanrio concession arriving in Harrods some years after I saw these products widely on sale over there and sought them out for DD. I bought a 'Little Stars' suitcase and a lipbalm for her in 1992. There was only a few products available and now look at it all!

I loved the massive beauty stores in Tokyo and Seoul. Just rammed with products for every kind of purpose and most never conceived of by me. Like a psychedelic 'Ricky's which is in Manhattan.

I like to believe that I am above and immune to the adverstising, but I'm sure that's not the case.

I have a bit of a shopping problem. I get a real kick out of buying beauty products. I suppose I've bought so much of it, the western stuff has become dull and tired to me. My discovery of a whole new world of different products, which of course are basically the same products just branded differently, makes me very excited. I know it won't last.

Having said that, I stand by my claim that western BB creams are crap compared to Korean ones, and because they are superior, I "need" to know whether other make-up items are superior too. So I am lusting after a Mascara tube shaped like a winking cat, and a lipstick in the shape of a love-heart.

I love make-up, but I think that has little to do with wanting to make myself look attractive, and more about my addictive personality, and the thrill of the buy. For me, the Korean/Japanese market just offers something new and different.

I hear you, Quinn. I have a similar fetish and beauty stores and chemists are my first port of call in any foreign town. I especially love French chemists French Monoprix beauty/bath aisles for Le Petit Marsellaise, Cetaphil, Vichy, Tahiti, Bourjois bath and all those lovely weird products. I always buy bottles of the Eau Jeune 'Eau Fraiche' range from French supermarkets because of the lime green scent and the cool frosted bottles.

In Italy I love the rose waters in the dark blue bottles and this pink peppercorn based body spray you can buy there.

I have ordered the apple shaped and peach shaped creams and the penguin hand cream for Dd. They're really cool and thank you for the recommendation. I don't wear BB or foundation or anything like that but I adore looking at the products.
