Non - Johnsons mild shampoo recommendations

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/04/2012 17:45

I'd be really glad to hear of recommendations for a mild shampoo (and, ideally'a conditioner too) for me and my girls.
We all get eczema mildly and they need something 'eye-friendly'. I have heard that Johnsons Baby shampoo which we have been using is actually quite harsh.

I'd like something as natural as possible, reasonably easy to get hold of (willing to do Holland and Barretts or similar),and not too expensive.

Any advice gratefully received.

Have you tried halos and horns?

Elsy · 26/04/2012 17:55

I use the Mop pear shampoo for my girls. It's very gentle and smells delicious. A bit pricey, but lasts for ages.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 26/04/2012 17:58

I've heard of halos and horns, but not tried, shoppingbags.
Where sells it?

Does the pear shampoo smell of pears,Elsy, and where from?

Thanks!

Yes, if you have eczema you probably shouldn't really be using johnsons. It has SLS (sodium laureth sulphate) in which is not great for eczema. My DD has mild eczema and we use Halos and Horns which you can get it boots and Tesco. They're lovely, kids smell yummy after too! They've had quite a few offers on recently. There are shampoos, shampoo plus detangler and shower gel. Sometimes we also use the Body baby shampoo but that's a bit expensive- £6 a bottle I think. Have heard good things about Burt Bees too but thats expensive.

I think the E45 shampoo is also pretty good.

The 'Naked' range sold at boots are all mild and sls/silicone free. They do a shampoo and conditioner for sensitive scalps called 'mildness unadorned' good quality and fairly cheap, often on bogor too!

I second the Simple range. My DH & DD suffer from eczema and this is really gentle on their skin.

bonzo77 · 26/04/2012 18:51

Another fan of "naked". Fine for my DS who sometimes gets eczema patches.

peachypips · 26/04/2012 19:54

I have eczema and find the Simple products shockingly bad for my skin- they have SLS in them which as someone else pointed out is terrible for eczema. I use halos and horns for hair washing - it's £1.49 in tesco. Conditioner doesn't matter as it doesn't contain anything bad for eczema.

We've used 'Earth Friendly Baby Organic Chamomile Shampoo' for years and it's the only thing that doesn't bring my 4 dc out in some kind of rash or mild eczema (inc Halos & Horns, which did). It's about £4 in boots but lasts for ages. I try other ones from time to time but keep coming back to it. Holland & Barrett do an organic range which has been mentioned a lot on here and won awards I think, but I haven't tried it.

lesstalkmoreaction · 26/04/2012 19:59

I second halos and horns especially the orange one, its the only one my dd now aged 17 has ever been able to use without making her skin itch.
I get it on my ocado delivery, tescos or asda.

Thanks everyone for the excellent advice Thanks.

Knew I could count on you lot!!!!

Earth Friendly Baby is good, they do a nice tangerine shampoo and body wash. I used it on DS when he was newborn and it's VERY mild.

I've used Weleda's Baby calendula shampoo and body wash on DS (and me) for years now and it's excellent, creamy lotion type consistency, lathers nicely, is slightly moisturising and smells lovely. It can leave build up after a while so you occasionally need to swap it round with another as creamy shampoos can be more prone to leaving buildup I think.

QuietNinjaKnowsNotWhatToDo · 27/04/2012 08:37

Naked also do a baby/toddler range. I've got the shampoo for ds.

peachypips · 27/04/2012 20:51

Yes weleda also very good!

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 27/04/2012 20:53

MOP pear

Daniel Galvin Watermelon (Waitrose)

Doctor Hauschka range

Victoria Health can advise you and your doctor will also be able to advise on OTC shampoos that are listed in the BNF as hypoallergenic.

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/04/2012 20:55

I use Morrison's baby shampoo on mine, as it's non-stingy in their eyes and half the price of Johnsons. DD gets occasional eczema flare ups but is fine with this (though I would suspect it to be full of similar nasties to Johnsons as it doesn't claim to be organic herbs etc...)

wishiwasonholiday · 27/04/2012 20:56

I have eczema on my hands and use tressemme naturals shampoo which is much better for my skin as low sls.

Vizzini · 27/04/2012 21:23

Naked Toffee Apple shampoo is lovely.

lurkingaround · 27/04/2012 21:46

We use something called Little Me organic (I think), you get it in boots, they do washes, shampoo etc. not cheap but oh so gentle and smells divine.

The only thing "baby" about Johnson's is the smell, if you ask me. Nowt gentle about it at all.
