..That has lippy, blusher, eyeshadows in etc and where all the shades are wearable?

OP posts:
ruby22 · 26/04/2012 16:24

Yet to find one where everything is wearable......shall watch with interest.

cybbo · 26/04/2012 16:34

Don't bobbi brown make up pallettes for you? So you can choose what you want?

the ready made ones are usually toot

Msarsebiscuit · 26/04/2012 17:41

I have this one, www.temptalia.com/bobbi-brown-pretty-palette-review-photos-swatches - all very wearable colours, for me at least. Laura Mercier's palettes can be good, if expensive unless you buy them in the Space NK sale but my recent favourite is a mega discounted Jemma Kidd one from the said Space NK sale - I really like the eyeshadow/lip primer and the blush/lip colour is quite flattering on ( despite being orange )

valiumredhead · 26/04/2012 17:46

Am I the only person who finds BB really uninspiring? I find the counter so bleughhhh and all the lipsticks are the same colour Grin

MooMinCow · 26/04/2012 18:12

I'm with you Vallium. like BB concealer, corrector, foundation but the rest of it just doesn't get my juices going like MAC, Urban Decay or even Sleek does Grin. I think their powder eyeshadows are a bit 'meh' and not v pigmented.

but yes OP if you are after every day/neutral shades then BB is a safe bet.

Msarsebiscuit · 26/04/2012 18:31

I know what you mean, I generally find Bobbi Brown a bit too 'tasteful' for my personal liking but then I'm a glitter addict and would happily spend my life looking as though I'd coated myself in Pritt and rolled in a tray of sequins, however unseemly that may be for a wizened old crone like myself.
I think that palettes can be useful if you travel a lot and have a pathological fear of being left without make up ( me ).

valiumredhead · 26/04/2012 18:33

BB must e the only counter I find myself walking away from because it's all so bland and 'tasteful.'

MAC on the other hand and I am like a kid in a sweetie shop!

MooMinCow · 26/04/2012 18:42

oo glad there are some kindred (glittery) spirits here Grin

OP-I always find palettes a bit hit and miss as there are always 2-3 shades I never end up using. think you might be better off making up a palette of your own? IIRC BB used to do one when their stuff came in round pots, not sure now. only other companies that I know of (off the top of my head) that do customised palettes are MAC, E.L.F and Inglot?

Msarsebiscuit · 26/04/2012 18:45

Sadly I have the same problem with the Urban Decay Naked palette, I think I'm a neutral phobic.Show me a metallic sea green nail varnish and an Illamasqua glittery pigment and I hand over my debit card.

valiumredhead · 26/04/2012 18:46

Now I LOVE the Naked pallets especially the second one as it has a bit more oomph!

MooMinCow · 26/04/2012 18:50

I don't get the hype over the Naked palette either Marse... all the colours looked pale and shimmery on me (am dark skinned). brown eyeshadow (and varying shades of) just too 'vanilla' on me Wink

valiumredhead · 26/04/2012 18:53

The colour 'naked' in the naked pallet is the colour I have been searching for for years!

Wouldn't have paid £40 for it though - I got mine on ebay for £18 Grin

Benefit also do good compacts- Cabana Glamour is a new summer one.

Lancome, Clarins and YSL all do seasonal compacts although many of them tend to focus on either eyes, cheeks/face or lips. They do good compacts with swirls of different colours that can be swept over face or eyes too though. YSL's 'Rock Candy' palette is lovely.

Shiseido do fantastic highly pigmented colour compacts too-they are best for out there high fashion shades.

britishbeautyblogger · 26/04/2012 19:12

I really like Bobbi Brown palettes because they're non-scary! Just great neutral shades that are properly wearable and you can make them more or less dramatic as you wish. They even have an empty palette that you can fill with four colours that you really like so you can make up a palette that you know you'll use and not end up with one shade that never gets touched!

Atreegrowsinbrooklyn · 26/04/2012 19:15

Bobbi Brown Nectar Shimmer Brick is a little more vibrant and her Summer 'Miami' collection has stronger shades.

britishbeautyblogger · 26/04/2012 19:19

But! If you love shimmer and bold colour, try Urban Decay Deluxe Shadow box or the Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Palette.

britishbeautyblogger · 26/04/2012 19:21

Also, Sleek do fabulous colour palettes.. the Acid IDivine is as bright as you could possibly go. It is a high street brand so not expensive but still fun.

whitelillies · 26/04/2012 19:26

I have a bobbi brown shimmering nudes palette from about 4 years ago going string still and I use it lots. It s great for a neutral base - but I have to say mac is better pigmented and stays put longer and range is better too.
Love bb eye gel liner though Smile

QuinnFabray · 26/04/2012 19:34

NYX do some great palettes. It's really good quality make up and not too expensive. I have their dupe for the Naked palette, which has twice as many shadows and about 10 lip creams, for about £25. They do other palettes which include blusher too.

QuinnFabray · 26/04/2012 19:38

You can also buy the magnetic Z-Palette and put refills in and customise it yourself. I've got one with MAC blushers in, plus a couple of benefit blushers, that I de-boxed, some MAC eyeshadows and a bronzer. It comes with magnetic stickers, and it's really handy to have everything in one place.

QuinnFabray · 26/04/2012 19:42

here

That site also sells refill pans of shadows, face powders and blushers from Make up Atelier, which is really good quality. Gossmakeupartist on youtube says so!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2012 19:51

I love Urban Decay eyeshadow boxes and have a couple, one v bright (Oilslick and Mildew are my favourites in that one) and one Naked. Really like both of them but get more wear out of Naked now (am old and boring!).

wheresthepopcorn · 26/04/2012 19:55

I also like those big makeup sets from Estee Lauder. Wierdly, I just like to look at a whole lot of makeup - don't necessarily have to use it. Confused

MooMinCow · 26/04/2012 20:02

Popcorn - my friend is obsessed with those EL sets (the huge cases given away at Xmas with perfumes right?). I've never bought any EL stuff (seems all 'old ladyish' makeup to me), but concede a big fuck off vanity case full of goodies would be tempting!

wheresthepopcorn · 26/04/2012 20:27

I was strangely impressed with the EL lipsticks when purchasing one for my sister. In fact briefly considered hiding purchase in handbag and keeping for myself Blush
