How bad would your skin have to be before you went to the doctor?
Came off Cerazette in January. Periods not settled down yet. All spots around my chin area, rest of skin is clear. Lots of them are just red marks but the minute one goes another appears
Have tried quinoderm, freederm, dermalogica, and currently using Vichy Normaderm wash and moisturiser

Go now I say.

However as a watch out - I have just been put on a course of tetracyclines - for perioral dermatitis but I do have spots at age 35 still - mnaged 2 before the indigestion got so bad I had to stop.

Are they acne spots - ie white heads etc - as perioral dermatitis is clusters of red fluid filled spots around mouth and chin. Have a whiz on google pictures to compare yours.

But get to the doctors and start pushing - 3 months is long enough

If it is bothering you which it is I would go. A topical zinc ointment may help. Some of what you mention are very strong. I would try the Neutrogena oil free range inc the moisturiser.

Acne spots. Some are very tiny. They seem to sit there for ages
I have tried the gentle approach with the ultra calming cleanser and an oil free moisturiser, and the harsher approach!
Usually my skin takes anything, I get the odd spot

I've been wondering the same thing for some time. My finger has hovered over docs number a few times but I feel like they'll think I'm a time waster. It's really getting me down and I've tried all the OTC lotions you have too. Started oil cleansing method thanks to this forum and have seen some improvements but not to my chin which is worse than ever!

I may pluck up the courage to call GP... I will if you will!

brighthair · 24/04/2012 18:23

Yeah I an just wondering if it will settle when I stop having 2 periods a month!!
I would say mine have been worst this past month

I have dreadful spots on my chin. Think they are hormonal, but have not had a day in 32 years when I have been spot free ( I'm 45) Have been on oxytetracycline on and off for 10 years, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Only thing I find that really works is glycolic acid. ( Jan marini)
I only buy one pot a year, as I think it thins the skin if you use it too much.
Go to your GP, better than putting up with it.

Marni23 · 24/04/2012 20:49

I'd go if I was you. I developed really bad spots on my forehead a couple of years ago. Put up with them for ages and tried most of the stuff you've tried but just couldn't get rid of them. The doctor gave me a 3 month course of antibiotics (monocycline) and they've all gone. (I am now frantically touching wood...)

Try treating from the inside. Drink plenty of water, cut out alcohol, caffeine, refined carbs, increase vegetables, beans, pulses, nuts and seeds. Make sure you are not constipated. I know my skin generally reflects what I am eating and drinking.

I take omega oil, a multi vit, drink probably 3l water a day and try to follow the paleo way of eating Wink

I suffered from spots on my chin from my early 20's upto 12 months ago (so about 15 years) - as another poster said, I never had a day where I didn't have a spot of some sort on my chin Sad

I tried antibiotics twice for 3 months at a time and whilst they worked whilst I was on them, as soon as I stopped taking them, the spots came back. Last January, I found a link on here to Benzoyl Peroxide and it has been a revelation - in the last 15 months, I have maybe had 5 spots which is just amazing Smile

Google the 'acne regimen' and have a look - I only use the benzoyl in the evenings and it seems to be enough. But I pile on the moisturiser day and night and my skin is lovely and soft and feels great - before this, I used to avoid moisturiser like the plague Grin

brighthair · 24/04/2012 21:05

I might try the acne org regime again, I did that when I was using the quinoderm
Generally my skin seems to like a lotion type cleanser and an oil free moisturiser but nothing is sorting it
I am waiting on my salicylic acid peel to arrive Grin

Ceebee - where did you buy your BP? And what's your technique?

I've got the same acne issue as you - still haven't found the miracle cure yet. I've been doing the Salicylic peels for the past 4 weeks and thought that was the secret at last as my skin has really improved, but I have 3 new gigantica chin spots today. Hormonal no doubt.

ceebeegeebies · 25/04/2012 13:09

Jean I buy my BP from Chemist Direct - a tube costs less than £5 but lasts for about a month. I tend to buy 3 tubes at a time to save on postage.

As for my regime, I do the following:

Morning - I wash my face in the shower with Boots No 7 foam cleanser, then put Boots bog standard day moisturiser on.

Evening - Wash my face at the sink with No 7 foam cleanser, wait for it to dry for a couple of minutes then put BP on my chin/jawline/neck. About 10 minutes later (you can feel the BP drying out), put Boots No 7 bog standard night moisturiser on.

I follow the acne.org advice of using foam cleanser, gently rubbing/patting the cleanser/BP on with the tips of your fingertips and gently patting my face dry with a towel rather than rubbing.

Once you get into the habit, it becomes second nature tbh.

2 tips though - go very easy with the BP at first and build it up very gradually. I didn't and had a very red and flaky skin for about a week which was very Blush - the only time the flakiness flares up now is when I start a new tube but it is nowhere near as bad as the first time.

Second tip - it is bleach so be careful what you touch with your face when the BP is on. As I tend to do my evening routine around the DC's bathtime, most of their PJ's have bleach marks around the arms/shoulders as I obviously touch them without thinking before they go to bed Wink

hope that helps Smile

jeanvaljean · 25/04/2012 15:57

Ceebee - that's really helpful! Thanks for the tips. Do you get the Panoxyl or the Quinoderm?

I'm quite depressed about my skin at the moment. I think I had such a high from sizzling with SA and thinking that I finally had the zits beaten, that it's quite a shock that they've come back with a vengeance.

ceebeegeebies · 25/04/2012 20:54

I get the Panoxyl Smile

Honestly, it has been a revelation for me and I have SO much more confidence!
