New job, want to make big impression. Got £££ to spend...

I'm starting a new job in May which requires a 2 day visit to head office in London. New job carries a nice pay increase, so I want to look as awesome as possible and am willing to spend a bit to achieve it.

I don't normally wear office gear (am freelance) so other than a couple of shirts, I have nowt.

I'm going to have the week off before, so will have fresh cut and highlights, and new mani and pedi in glossy dark brown.

Hoping for springlike weather!

I can't ever see me in an apprentice style skirt suit, I see me in razor sharp trousers and a shirt/ top/ whatever that shows off my ample boobage a bit.

I'm 5 foot 4, size 14, have trendy-ish short hair and I wear trendy-ish glasses.

Love the idea of fashion from eg Grazia, Guardian weekend etc but want to look classy first but also kick-ass and confident, possibly with androgynous edge?

Am 40, and can afford say, Whistles, Jigsaw type prices although have never shopped there before.

Live in Edinburgh with great shops on my doorstep.

WWYB?

Joseph a good starting point.....

jumpinghoops · 23/04/2012 17:42

COS sounds right up yr street...

RubyFakeNails · 23/04/2012 17:54

If I was you I'd look at some of the current Whistles tailoring. They currently have some great blazers and trousers. Then look at tops.

You could find an amazing blazer and then wear it with whatever trousers and tops or find some great trousers and mix and match jackets.

Whistles is one of my favourite brands. I'm a different size/shape to you by the sounds of it but found this really flattering on giant boobs and love this

The Mia, Justine and Harriet trousers are also quite flattering but you might want to try on as I'm a different height.

RubyFakeNails · 23/04/2012 17:59

I forgot to say, you should try zara for great blazers but definitely don't recommend their trousers.

You could get some great knitwear in COS for if the weather isn't as you're hoping.

I find Jigsaw a bit dull and mumsy but still have a look, also what about looking at Equipment shirts, great quality, very simple but stylish. See here but they're also available on ASOS and MyWardrobe

The Kooples is great for that cool, androgynous look....second Joseph for fab trousers.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 23/04/2012 18:04

Also, wear the outfit, esp shoes! for a day the week before so you are comfortable in it and it does not look like you are trying toooo hard Grin

RubyFakeNails · 23/04/2012 18:11

Such a good point MrsGuy, be sure to wear it before the day.

I usually test drive my special outfits to Sainsburys. I know I must look a complete nutter all dressed up but its helped me sort out what looks a wreck after sitting down in or, what hurts my feet after half an hour and quite importantly what is breathable and what isn't.

And yes love The Kooples.

orangina · 23/04/2012 18:18

I have been updating my work look from Cos recently, quite cool without being corporate.

(can't afford joseph at the moment!)

Dollydowser · 23/04/2012 18:35

Pepperberry is great for giant boobs.

everythingtodo · 23/04/2012 18:54

I feel a trip through to Glasgow coming on for you - there is a Cos in Princes Square.

madammecholet · 23/04/2012 18:59

Look at Massimo Dutti, online and shops, posh sister tp ZARA, ver lovely for work stuff.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 23/04/2012 19:08

If I were you, I'd book myself a session with a personal shopper at e.g. John Lewis (so they have all the shops you mention accessible). I did this after my first maternity leave and got some great stuff.
