Christening dress for 5 month old baby

Dd is to be christened (C of E) in the summer. We have a couple of monthsto find a dress. She is quite a long baby so we might need either 3-6m or 6-9m, I'm not sure.

I am wondering whether to get a long old fashioned gown or a little white cotton or silk dress. In a way, it would be quite nice if she could wear it again; we are not planning to have any more babies.

Does anyone have any suggestions for either option?

Also, if you went for a long gown, did you keep your Dd in it all day, or change for the christening party?

I got an old fashioned gown for ds. Also my mum crocheted a lovely shawl to match. it wasnt cheap but I figured I could use it for the brood of kids I would have. 5 years on an ds is an only child still.

I tried to keep him in it all day but it came to a time when it wasnt practical anymore. Unfortunately that was before
Pictures were taken but hey ho.

The gown was lovely - I'm not a fan of these mini suits for baby boys.

We went for it big styleee. A lovely gown and then a little linen hand embroidered frock for the party. If you feel the need www.susanlawson.co.uk/pages/boys_and_girls.htm we bought from here.

It was all a huge to do with us - but I love any excuse to buy beautiful things and the gown has been worn by others too. I have a bit of a thing for silk Blush It's in a box and when I am old I will look at it and smile.

Did you go for those little bonnets or caps (since the point is pouring water on the child's head, not sure what you are supposed to do with the cap)?

Yes we got a cap type thing that could be for a boy or girl.

I think they hard back to days when people just wore caps and hats whatever and made a large to do of doing so for church.

For a special occasion, I think that the I Love Gorgeous dresses are to die for.
