Any advice on high street jeans for curvy with smaller waist?

I always spend a day dragging around the high street sweating and struggling with my self esteem ;-) trying to get a pair of jeans. I've just put in two hours today and was hoping for some advice to minimise stress in my continued search.

I am a size 14 with very curvy legs, full thighs and hips but a small waist. I'm 5' 7" and a keen walker with muscular legs. I have a 31" inside leg. I do have quite nice, slim ankles which I would quite like to show rather than burying everything under bootcuts but the skinny leg jeans don't go up!

Thank you in advance for any help :-)

I have been on a similar quest (sigh). Though I am a smaller size than you, but that doesn't make it any easier.

Gap do a Curvy one (very low rise, though they call it a "mid rise" Confused).
Biba, River Island & Levis were also recommended to me (I tried on & they suited my curves, also cost £50-£70 typically and personally I'm not spending that type of money unless the fit is 100% what I like).

You can go on the Levi.com website & find their recommendations, but someof them aren't even sold in the UK (sigh). And everything is much too low rise for my liking. Gap thru which to view underwear seems to be very trendy. Confused I have a 27" waist and end up with severe muffin top, because the jeans stop 3-4" below my actual waist. Someone tell me how that supposed to be flattering? Angry

Do you want smart jeans for nights out or something you can wear whilst scrambling around on the floor at toddler groups? Are you top heavy (boot cut advised) or balanced (skinny fit also an option). I found 2 charity shop pairs today that fit alright around hips/waist, but were 2-3" too short leg (sigh).

There are some tarty American Sleb Sisters surname= Kardashian, they have variuous curvy jeans named for them, but you'd have to import from USA or find on Ebay (worth researching, maybe).

For the first time ever I have jeans that fit my waist and my bum (I normally get jeans to fit my hips and then take up the slack round my waist with belts). Evans have started doing 'pear' shaped jeans (look out for the ones that actually say pear on the fabric label sewn into the jeans) which fit beautifully.
I realise that at a size 14 you are right at the bottom of Evans size range, but it might be worth a quick look if you are passing.

Another vote for the Gap curvy jeans, as I have the same problem! I've also recently bought some of the Asda Great Bum jeans after seeing recommendations on here. They are only £18 and TBH you get what you pay for but they are great as every-day jeans and the long length is perfect for me (5'8")

Thank you very much for the advice. I would never have thought of Evans! I suppose because I was always slimmer but it's a whole new shop to explore, how exciting! I always had trouble buying jeans even as a size 10 due to my proportions. I was more of a pear when slimmer but have balanced out into more of an hourglass with age and weight :-). There is not a Gap nearby but it is something to look for on eBay. Also very interested in the Kardashian idea, would make a change from the usual Boden, my husband would love it! A very good starting point. Thank you very much ladies :-)

They do hourglass too. It's called "shop your shape".
here.

I find Oasis pretty good for curves.

I have some work trousers from Gap which are the curvy style and they also fit well but their sizes seem quite large - I can wear a 12 there.

ragged · 23/04/2012 13:18

I wear size 8 (or 26 waist) most everywhere, and I can't find anything that actually flatters me the way jeans are supposed to. Maybe if I put on 1.5 stone I could at least wear size 14 & go to Evans :). The Gap curvy ones stop about 5" below my actual waist, which leaves me feeling cold as well as muffin-topped (I am only 5'8" with short legs, so need a dress to be long enough to cover the tummy with many modern low rise jeans). It is nuts. I think modern designer jeans only suit Victoria Beckham short anorexics. Will try Oasis & Asda, though, it's only time I'll be wasting I suppose.

In charity shops today I found 2 pairs that well suited my bottom/hips/waist, except that the leg hem was 2-4" too short. (Sigh).

What jeans does JLo wear? Off to google...

Butwhatdoyoudoallday · 23/04/2012 13:22

I second the vote for Oasis. I'm wearing a pair of their jeggings today, which are more like v skinny proper jeans with a fly and pockets but with extra Lycra content, and they fit well - I'm small of waist and fat curvy of thigh and bottom. They come up nice and high too, though not in a mum jeans way, more of a I don't want the world to see my pants way.

3rdnparty · 23/04/2012 13:25

I have the asda ones too although waist still too big, I would suggest trying a size down as they have stretched a bit so have to wear a belt -hip& leg good fit though and get lots of good comments- I am 14-16 bottom but not much bum more tum and post c-section cliff....thought gap curvy would be my answer but too low cut

Snoot · 24/04/2012 10:54

Right - I'm going to drag my inconveniently proportioned self into town with this as a guide and attempt to acquire some jeans/jeggings/anything at all! I will report back. Thank you for all your help :-)

Might try Sainsbury's, too. I found a pair there yesterday that seem promising.

Ugh. No jeans! Oasis have nothing in a 14 L so I can't comment on them. Best so far Dorothy Perkins £25 bootcut jeans but they didn't have the long and the regular has too much of a flare to wear slightly too short. Also Next bootcut at £42 good, waist a little on the low size but quite alright however when I went back the 14L had gone. Their skinny fit is much smaller in the body and not good! Bought a pair of their leggings though which were the best of the one I tried on, a good level of cover :-).

I visited:
Oasis

I visited:
Oasis (a small concession in a department store)
Evans (small BHS concession, no size 14L jeans)
M&S (middle aged waists and horribly tight crotches!)
Top Shop (all skinny jeans)
Next (nothing in 14L)
New Look (I was getting desperate! Just BAD!)
TKMax (interesting, some Levi's nearly right, worth a visit)
I can't remember but I'm sure there were more!!!

Didn't l

Sorry, keep hitting submit inadvertantly! Tried lots of jeggings but the seem to bunch around the knee unflatteringly and be horrifically tight in the camel toe region. Enjoying my Next leggings with a denim mini although still need jeans!
