Dresses to get married in

Hmm, Ok, look I feel a bit weird posting this but I've been looking around online for a while and can't seem to come up with anything.

I need to find a wedding frock. I want it to be creamy or possibly white, but really, who am I kidding Grin so cream probably. Or even really pretty and light beige or pinkish or whatever - not fussed.

The thing it's got to have is sleeves. There are loads with just straps or no straps etc but I need a short sleeve because I have a vairy old tattoo on my shoulder/upper arm which I really am not fond of. So sleeves are important - NO one sees the tattoo even in high summer! I wear a cardi. But I don't want to have to wear a cardi for a wedding.

Also the budget is basically zero so anything approaching that is great - well say up to a hundred, I suppose. I hate the usual wedding dress fuss, you know, those sites that are all glammed up and dramatic lighting and frilly stuff. Hate hate hate it all. I have no wish to resemble a Disney princess.

So it can be from a normal shop iyswim. I just don't know where to start!

Thankyou, if you have got any ideas/seen anything nice that you are willing to share a link to Smile

I also HATE bridal fashion. Still, one does occasionally need to resemble a bride.

cover up

choice of cover ups

short sleeved number

tunic 1

tunic 2

simple linen number

fitted number

What do you think?

Hi, I got married last year & went into both Hobbs & LK Bennett, normally totally out of my price range, & tried on the little shift dresses which they co-ordinated with lovely silk wraps over the arms. Also have matching cardis & jackets.

I know it may be considered a bit ordinary but it suited the occasion - dressed up but still relaxed & "me". The assistants were So keen to make me try stuff it was all v fun.

I wore a pink tweedy shift dress shot with silver thread, it was sleeveless but I had a matching long jacket, sort of Jackie K, but when I bent over you could see my knickers Grin don't think JK ever did that (in public).

I wore the jacket for photos because my arms were covered in bruises and teeth marks Hmm

Oh some lovely things...thanks for all the ideas. Eowyn, that sounds great Smile I did have a looky at Hobbs but couldn't find anything quite right at a glance.
I love their things normally though so will keep looking.

I think I might have had a complete turnaround you know Blush Seeing those ones on Coco's site with the women with their hair up, and very 40s/50s make up I am thinking, actually, that's beautiful - I might go with a long skirt after all.

I'm thinking sort of Grace Kelly look? iykwim - I do have a small waist and am about an 8-10, not very tall (5ft7) but maybe might be able to get away with it?

So something quite plain, long flared skirt, very fitted top - maybe? Does that sound ok? with long sleeves Smile

Blooming tattoo. I wish I had never had it but the woman who did it looked at me like a bulldog looks at a kitten and said 'I've DRAWN it now' so I had to let her. Always bloody hated it Smile

Coco Shock that sounds lovely and stylish, but what happened, had you been attacked by wolves?

haha no I work with children with behaviour problems, one was a biter.

5ft 7 and 8-10! Envy You'd look lovely in a long dress.

NoMoreCakeOclock · 22/04/2012 13:43

Try make up too, before you buy a dress. I got serious sunburn in a lovely v 2 weeks before my wedding. I ordered tattoo covering make up online and no one could tell. You set the make up with water and it doesn't go anywhere. It could change your life - no more cardigans in summer!

Flightty · 22/04/2012 13:43

Gosh, that sounds painful! What a wonderful job to do though.

I think I will let these ideas permeate my mind for a few weeks...was putting off having to DO anything about it before DP suddenly announced very loudly last night to an entire pub that I'm his fiancee. BlushBlush

Still got no ring though or any idea WHEN

well we will see

Thanks again for all your trouble you took to help. I've bookmarked a few of those frocks Smile

Not speaking from experience here, but there are some really effective tattoo concealers out there, which might give you some more options.
