it doesn't go that well with the mantle but i am past caring now..

I think we will hang it so it is about 6" above the mantle if portrait and a bit higher if landscape

Mine is just resting on the mantelpiece - it leans back slightly (I think the gap at the base is about 1-2" from the wall) You can use blu-tac to hold it in place if you really want to.

ok have finally hung the fucker and took off the cellophane
hung it portrait style and it looks great and we're replacing the mantle

EXCEPT the mirror is obviously warped , it's like those ones you get in a theme park
everything looks curved
