I'm back to work soon and looking for a CHEAP and reliable second-hand car. Budget is £2k and that's pushing it!!! Has anyone any recommendations?

When I found out I was pregnant my criteria for choosing a car changed somewhat. We ended up looking on the EURO NCAP site to see the safety ratings of cars.
For newer cars they include a child protection rating, but that's only for cars since manufactured since 2005, I believe. Still, it gives you an idea about which cars would protect your little ones the best

I had a second hand Seat Ibiza which I bought for £1600, for 4 years and it was v reliable, never broke down and the servicing costs were not bad. Someone told me that it was very similar (or built by the same factory?) as Golfs, but I'm not sure if that was true. It was nice to drive though and much more substantial than my previous mini metro.

Seat are owned by what used to be VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group), they own VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda & another sports marque but can't remember what it is. Consequently the build quality is v good.

I've got a little 3 door Rover 214 and LOVE it.

I'd suggest a Nissan Micra - according to a recent article (hubby told me about it) - they are the most reliable cars with cheapest repairs, etc - followed by Ford Fiesta. I'm hoping to get a Micra in about two weeks
