I was reading another thread where you talked about water based serum for dehydrated skin - I couldn't order the Melvita one you recommended as they don't ship to Ireland so I found a recipe for a home made one : aloe vera gel, rose water & glycerin - I made some today (minus the glycerin as I couldn't find any) and MY SKIN IS SAVED Grin

I've spent 3 years trying to find a moisturiser to cope with my dry skin but without fail they were all too greasy and didn't actually make my skin feel less tight. Without your advice it might have taken me another 3 years to figure out something that would work!

I've used the Aldi serum before and it was ok, but not a patch on this mix I've used today.....I have used Simple rich moisuriser on top and my skin has lost the leathery appearance it had and my pores seem to have disappeared too...

THANK YOU!!

Ooh shapely what quantities did you use to make your serum? And when do you apply it, morning or night, under or over moisturiser? I'm a serum beginner and can't find one that suits my very dry skin...

Krumbum · 19/04/2012 22:47

Is this good for oily skin too as it hydrates with water not oil? How does it work I'm interested! My skin is a mess.

msshapelybottom · 20/04/2012 07:46

Crystal, I just made a teeny amount in an espresso cup, about 2 teaspoons aloe vera and approx double the amount of rose water. It's a little sticky, maybe once I get some glycrin it might be a better consistency. It sinks right in though!

Krumbum, I imagine it would be good for oily skin. No idea how it works, it just does Grin

Thanks shapely, I'll give it a go! Thanks

msshapelybottom · 20/04/2012 21:08

Just incase anyone's interested, have some glycerin now and it definitely helps the serum feel more slippy and less sticky :)

Never thought I'd use those words in relation to my face but there you go!

The glycerin will help act as a preservative too.

MissFoodie · 21/04/2012 11:08

am on holiday abroad so only just seen this!
SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
glad it's working for you and yes, glycerin is great for hydrating as is the aloe vera gel. Such a pity Melvita wont ship to ireland?????
here you go, order from here, its free delivery worldwide!
www.feelunique.com/brands/melvita
I def recommend this when you run out of your home made one as it contains hylauronic acid too :)
enjoy!!!!

MissFoodie · 21/04/2012 11:18

actually, that site doesn't stock that particular product, sorry, but will have a think, CANNOT believe you can't get it in Ireland.....
did you try calling/emailing them to ask?
I can check with their PR agency as I know them...

msshapelybottom · 21/04/2012 13:58

MissFoodie, you are too kind! I did e-mail them and it was a big fat no...however, I actually found a link to a site to buy the hyaluronic acid to add to your own cream...

hyaluronic acid

Thanks again, I'm so delighted that my face doesn't feel tight and I don't look like a snake any more Grin

1gglePiggle · 21/04/2012 22:12

What's the website to get it from if you're from uk? Sorry cant find original thread.

MissFoodie · 22/04/2012 11:22

In UK you can order direct from Melvita, it's called Extraordinary Water, they do 3, the Rose is the best one, it's £13

Think it's melvita.co.uk? They have a few shops too, depends where you are

Spookey80 · 22/04/2012 15:19

I Also want to order th extraordinary water- does it come out like a serum- or is it quite watery? Am confused- but my skin is almost papery in texture- any help apprecited.

Then do i apply m Saul moisturiser on top?

Spookey80 · 22/04/2012 15:23

*usual

MissFoodie · 23/04/2012 11:09

There are 3 of these waters, the Rose is the best one. They are like "thick" water, though not as thick as gel iyswim.
You put on skin after cleansing, before your cream, bottle says with cotton wool, but this is a waste, so I just applied with fingers.
Let it soak in before applying cream.
It's like a thicker toner, really hydrates the skin, contains Hyaluronic Acid.
:)
ps there are others I use, but this is the cheapest

1gglePiggle · 24/04/2012 21:51

Thank you

MissFoodie · 27/04/2012 12:36

1ggle did you get it?

armagh · 17/02/2013 08:54

Msshapely bottom - parcel motel works in such a way that you can get deliveries from uk only companies. Check it out. Was listening to a report on radio. They go through Belfast. You can avail of the free delivery from uk only companies also. Parcel motel cost about € 3.50 i think. I'm going to use it. Disclaimer- i am not associated with parcel motel in any way. I just think it's great for those of us in ireland who previously couldn't order from (some short sighted ) uk companies. After all a customer is a customer, no matter where they live.Smile

lurkingaround · 17/02/2013 10:35

You should be able to get glycerin in the baking section of your supermarket. Or your local pharmacy should stock it.

Jcee · 17/02/2013 13:05

Naturisimo stock it and also do European delivery
