I don't *need* a suit, do I?

I have a job interview next Thursday. It's internal, is a position in my current team, and not a promotion. The interviewers will be my boss and his boss, both of whom I know well, and have very informal relationships with.
I am on maternity leave, and am not yet back to my pre-baby size, so none of my smart clothes fit.
Can't really justify a new suit, as I will.hopefully be thinner by the time I'm actually back at work, and I'm just coming to the end of my maternity pay.
I don't actually need a suit, do I? If I bought a nice tailored dress, that would do, wouldn't it?

I would either buy a cheap ass machine washable tailored dress in M&S (some of them are really quite nice and sooooo reasonably priced yet look very smart) or a nice jersey wrap dress that you can still wear after losing some weight. You'll get plenty of repeat wears that way too.

They had some cheap tailored dresses in Tu at Sainsbury's when I did my shop last week. They were nice for the money

Tailored dress is a good choice, much more versatile
I see far more women wearing dresses than trouser suits these days as well.

Hmmm, I do have a jersey wrap dress, that is moderately smart, but I wasn't sure it was quite interview material.
Was thinking M&S, as I have a gift card.

Thanks for confirming that I don't have to wear a suit - I'm sure DH will tell me that I do!

It seems to me that relatively stylish people lose all sense of fashion sense when it comes to interviews and automatically go for those ugly grey trouser suits. Bleurgh.

A dress would be much nicer, or tailored separates. And some great accessories.

I was in exactly this position recently and was going to wear a black jersey dress. Didn't get an interview though.

Not sure I have any 'great accessories'. And I know at least 1 of the 2 fellas interviewing probably won't even notice my outfit!
I like the black jersey dress idea
